Neither a Faithful Catholic nor Patriotic American can vote for an administration which upholds the HHS Mandate, an unelected bureaucrat’s command that the Catholic Church grossly violate her deeply held and sacred beliefs. The HHS Mandate is burning the flag, using the Constitution as toilet paper, and trampling the crucifix all at once.
Mr Hall of Mordecai’s Dragon puts it this way:
The HHS Mandate is a very foul and dangerous thing. Say what you wish about the overall Obamacare Plan; it is not the issue here. Many on either side of the political spectrum will attempt to make it seem as if it were. Some have even accused the U.S. Council of Bishops of despising Universal Healthcare. This is blatantly not so, they have been for the welfare and care of all peoples, however disadvantaged, for quite some time now, if there was ever even a time they were not. In fact, many are like myself, who oppose the Mandate, but not the idea that all men should be cared for and looked after when ill or injured. We oppose this loathsome Mandate because of one reason: it forces people to act against their religious beliefs in a drastic and harmful way. Namely, it threatens any institution that holds Christian (and Islamic and Jewish and occasionally Buddhist and Hindu) pro-life values and is not exclusively run for and by members of that same religion. It hammers them with large financial penalties if they do not grievously violate their own religious tenets. Basically, it forces the organization to pay for sterilizations, birth control pills (abortifacient), morning-after pills (distinctly abortifacient) and other such things. It forces the Catholic Church, among others, to pay for the murder of children and the degradation of human beings made in the image and likeness of God.
Naturally, this is intolerable to many in this country. “I’m sorry, you have deeply held religious beliefs about the sanctity of sexuality and human life? Violate them or we run you into the ground with fines.” This applies to every school (pre-school through University level), hospital, and social work organization that is part of the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. And, as I have said, many other churches besides. This act is an abomination…
[...]
We have three options now with the HHS Mandate
1) Comply. Act against our own beliefs in a horrendous manner.
2) Refuse to comply and continue to hold open our charities. We are then fined slowly to death or crippled to the point where we can do nothing.
3) Shut down. Which leaves us at the bleak point of #2.
Now, if we shut down or are forced to close, this is what will happen: all the people we served, all the needy, the children who need schooling, the sick who need healing, all of them are suddenly cut adrift in the economy. What better people to use as fodder for supporting Obamacare? Or any other expansion of Government aid our dear President might want to ram through the legislature?

I’m cynical about politicians in general, so I don’t pay much heed to campaign promises or the usual “I won’t say my opponent is a necrophilic rapist of dead baby kittens, but if you wish to draw that conclusion from these recent speeches he gave…” slanging that goes on, and I certainly won’t presume to advice Americans on how to vote or for whom.
But I have to vent some steam from seeing this and, lucky you, Mr Wright, your journal gets to be the recipient.
This kind of opportunistic rat-baggery just makes me want to thump someone. So the campaign is using a letter from a young woman with Down’s Syndrome (I have no idea if she really exists or not, or if she did, whether she did write the letter; if Brittany is a real person who really wrote this, I do not wish to seem to be calling her a liar; it is just that I don’t believe the colour of daylight from these party operatives).
The irony here is thick enough to choke a warthog, never mind a horse. The party that could not bring itself to support a bill proposing penalties for sex-selection abortions, lest it impinge in the slightest on the sacrosanct “right to choose” would be perfectly supportive, Brittany, had your mother chosen to abort you at any stage of her pregnancy.
The party that would support those women who, when given the result of prenatal tests indicating that the child has Down’s Syndrome, choose to abort in 80% of cases according to this website, but can you really trust the figures provided by the whiny, entitled parents of crips and ‘tards who expect us to pick up the tab for their useless spawn and keep them alive and looked after when their parents kick the bucket?), the party that revamped its policy at its recent convention to remove the “rare” part from its mantra about keeping abortion “safe, legal and rare” , the party led by a President who infamously said he would never want his daughters “punished” by a pregnancy (and so who, presumably, would be encouraging them to abort a Down’s Syndrome child should they become pregnant with one) – this is the party using a young woman with that condition to chide the political opponent on his supposed views about welfare spongers.
Now please, make no mistake – if Mr. Romney said what he is supposed to have said in the way he is supposed to have said it, it was damn stupid to say the least and needlessly insulted a lot of people who are in receipt of social welfare or health service payments for reasons of disability, age (when they’ve paid their contributions for pensions all their working lives) or being laid off in the current economic climate and not for reasons of being petty criminals and swindlers.
But the sheer nerve of this manoeuvre has me reaching for the appropriate Irish saying (please forgive me for the vulgarity, Mr. Wright) – the person responsible has a neck like a jockey’s bollocks.
I absolutely agree! No allegedly convinced Catholic can any longer honestly vote for the God booing, Moloch adoring, fascist socialist, jihadist appeasing Democrats! And I don’t give a darn about cant and babble about “social justice” excusing voting for Democrats. “Social justice” is too often used to cover up socialistic, big government policies.

The interesting thing about the HHS mandate is that Obama has given Catholics a relatively easy out, which will actually save them money and–no surprise here–accomplish Obama’s goals. That is to simply drop all healthcare coverage for their employees.
From what I’ve ready (which may not be correct, considering the length of the law, or which may change tomorrow, considering we “had to pass it to find out what was in it” and something new may be “discovered”) under the PPACA, if an employer with more than 50 employees does not offer any health insurance coverage, the employer is fined $2000 per employee per year. This fine only applies beyond the first 30 employees, so at minimum the employee will be fined $40,000. However, this is likely less than the employer was paying in health care costs to begin with. For instance, my employer–who pays a bare minimum $300 a month towards my health insurance–pays $3600 a year per employee. He would save money by dropping coverage and taking the fine (which actually wouldn’t even apply to him, since my company has fewer than 50 employees). If an employer to whom this regulation applied paid similar amounts for his employees’ insurance as does my employer, he would already be paying at least $180,000 annually towards health insurance costs. Dropping coverage and taking the $40,000 fine would actually save him $140,000 annually.
Now, the interesting thing is that if that same employer offered full medical coverage, save abortifacients, then he would be fined $100 per employee per day or a whopping $36,500 annually. I haven’t seen anything to indicate this is only levied beyond 30 employees, so I surmise a 50-employee firm (the minimum to which the mandate applies) would be fined at least $1,825,000 annually. Compare this with the $40,000 fine for not offering health insurance at all, and it gives you a clue what the HHS mandate is about to begin with.
Obama isn’t actively seeking the destruction of the Catholic Church, although I have no doubt he wouldn’t shed a single tear if that was the effect. What the HHS mandate is about is forcing Christian (and Muslim and Jewish and anyone with a shred of respect for unborn life) employers to drop health insurance, to force their employees onto the government plan.
Obama told us that “we could keep our health insurance plans”. I think clearly, he doesn’t want this but just offered it as a concession to ease the PPACA down our throats. What he wants, since he is a socialist who wants government control over every aspect of our lives, is a single-payer system. The mandate is just one small step to bring this about.
Agreed. Conservatives have been saying exactly that since Day One, but we were called paranoid for daring to think the Administration had an ulterior motive.
Humanity
Were there but an ounce of humour in this wretched soul of mine
It would howl in pure derision at this current party line:
That a human’s not a human ‘til he’s exited the womb;
For his and his dear mother’s sake we furnish him a tomb.
But then a tomb is far too personal, a wasteful show of pain,
So just dump him in a bucket and then pour him down the drain.
You refuse our most magnanimous permission to now praise
Our superior compassion and enlightened human ways?
How callous and intolerant! Now hang your head in shame
At your hatred of a woman’s right to indulge passion’s flame!
Be silent in our presence! We know all about your kind,
Just ignore the shears and vacuum as we open up your mind.
