You Got My Attention By Libeling Me and Desecrating What I Love

With a combination of pity and dismay, I read this

I suspect the Rabids aren’t fans of SF so much as they are “members of the cult of Vox Day.” Partly, this is the only thing that truly seems to explain the works on the slate — the ones that aren’t published by Beale’s own press anyway — the point isn’t that they are any particular thing, the point is that he chose them, and there they are.

I don’t know what that implies for the future. Beale himself obviously believes in nursing a grudge to the end of time, so HE’S not going anywhere. But how many minions does he actually have? What’s their staying power? Are they really going to stay interested enough to do this again next year?

But to my infinite amusement, I read the reply: There are, as of last count, 367 vile, faceless minions of the Dark Lord of the Evil Legion of Evil Authors.

http://voxday.blogspot.com/2015/05/367.html

The International Lord of Hate has even more, and some of them are Mormons. Sarah Hoyt includes the Women’s Auxiliary of Evil, and as the Grand Inquisitor for the Congregation of the Evil Doctrine of the Evil Faith, I can grow additional followers from the noneuclidean spores transported here in brass jars from planet Yuggoth.

But the true treasure of the expressions were in Vox Day’s comment’s section, which I reprint here out of sheer delight. Go, minions!

Started reading SF back in the 70s when I was still in grade school. The idea that I am not a real fan is risible. As for my staying power, these people have pissed me off. I am not going anywhere.

Faceless Minon #0037 (May the faceless find faces). I am here until the end of time or until they surrender in this vast war.

Saul Alinsky has been rotting in hell for 43 years this June; since his heart attack dropped his vile worm into the dark flames of his desire.

His SJW spiritual descendants have much to answer for, reveling in being Children of the Lie.

$40 is a small, small price to pay for the Privilege of getting to start removing, one tiny brick at at time, from the curtain wall they have built around themselves.

We. Are. Coming.

And here people thought sigmas make lousy leaders. A sigma just needs the right type of rabid, vile, faceless minions, and then it’s off to war as the vast, infernal drums beat out the marching cadence.

How much effort does it take to do so with a smile on my lips and a song in my heart? None.

I participated last year and I intend to keep doing so as long as it’s a necessary and effective front on which to fight. I’ll also oppose the authoritarian SJWs on whatever fronts present themselves

This unnumbered minion will not only nominate and vote next year but will also attend with his wife.

I’m in for next year. Best entertainment value I’ve gotten for $40 in years.

Heh. Hehe. Hehehe. MuahahahahaHAHAHAHAHA!

Do you really think that we are going to stop now? When the Supreme Dark Lord is clearly making great strides toward turning your precious warren into a smoldering heap?

Oh no, little rabbit. The show must go on. Your very nature makes it so. As long as you continue to interfere in the lives of others, we will continue to interfere in yours.

Run. Run! We are watching. Analyzing your patterns. Waiting for the chains to be released again.

Dinner is coming.

(Also, let none doubt the Supreme Dark Lord is kind. I’ve had that evil laugh brewing for at least a week now, and it’s very hard to do that properly while muzzled.)

You understand nothing and do not even attempt to understand. You make wild guesses trying to patch up your faulty understanding, trying to salvage your hole-ridden worldview that conflicts so much with reality.

You, McJulie. You are my staying power. You and your kind give me the motivation, the energy, and the raw fury to continue my quest. Your holier-than-thou attitudes and constant degradation of everything you infect fuels my engine for crusade.

I will end only when you, and everything you stand for, end.

Play dead McJulie! Roll over for us like you do for Islam! Beg for pardon, what you never did for those women under Muslim rule.

You could not be reasoned with, so reasonable men must move past reasoning.

I only wish that one day, you realize that you and your friends brought this all upon yourselves.

Here’s the thing. I for one am very patient and long suffering. I will give you more than one chance to back down from a fight and if you are foolish enough to proceed, I will end it.

Translation: you got my attention by repeatedly insulting and lying about all of us. You crapped all over a thing that I love (SciFi) and called it worthless. In its place you set up a rocket-shaped statue of a syphilis-addled whore’s corpse.

One of two things will happen. The Hugos will once again become an award for truly outstanding and inspirational fiction or we will return, burn it down, grind it to powder, and salt the earth where it stood. Sodom will be no more. We will shake the dust off of our feet and move on to the next target in this war.

Ditto. I’ve been a fan since before a lot of the whiny SJW crew were even born. They are the newcomers and transient interlopers, not me. They came and shit all over something I have loved for a long, long time. Do they really think I’m going to forget that next year, or in ten years, or…. EVER?

And oh by the way, I bet a lot of us haven’t even signed up for numbers yet, so “367” is a very, very conservative estimate.

And just to be clear……there’s no expiry date on principles and truth.

But how many minions does he actually have? What’s their staying power?

There are lots of Minions other than the Vile Faceless branch.

There are the Deplorable Anonymous Minions, the Vicious Clandestine Minions, the Reprehensible Covert Minions and the Condemnable Enigmatic Minions just to name a few, not to mention the multitude of Lone Wolf Minions. Together, we are Legion and our memory is long.

I’m in. Lets march on Gondor same time next year.

I started reading SF back in the ’70s, plowing through the anthologies on the shelves in the public library. I read Isaac Asimov’s for years. Then I dropped off, preferring to read non-fic, history, crime, noir, Westerns, Viking sagas, old pulps, etc.

Back in ’06 I started checking out some modern SF magazines. Mostly I found that the stuff that didn’t bore me, was just plain offensive. But I had some dependable go-to writers who had extensive back-lists.

As a Vile Faceless Minion I am bound on pain of being devoured by hellhounds to vote as the Dread Lord bids. Thing is, I actually pretty much agree with his taste in SF. I could sort of quibble over Plural of Helens of Troy v Big Boys don’t Cry, but truth is I LIKED them. Wright is an amazing writer, and Kratman pulled out some excellence in Big Boys. By and large, the SP/RP recommendations have proved very good to superb, hardly laughably bad. They look like contenders to me.

As to getting crated up & sent to the pound, go ahead and try it lady. I’ve got a few friends on the opposite side, but they’re just folks. As for the big shots, they don’t know me, they never did anything for me, and I’m not asking for anything. I don’t care. I’m not going to start because Mercedes Lackey threatened me.

Read first sci fi book in transit barracks at Camp Hansen in Oki, on way to South Viet Nam first time, in 1968. Someone left a paperback on a bunk. Nothing *else* to read. It was called Glory Road…by someone named “Heinlein”. Never heard of him. Rest, history. Now old VFM. Live to exterminate SJW’s.

Time and time again we’ve seen it stated, explicitly (as here and by a commenter at ESR’s blog), and implicitly, that we’re not “true” and “hard-core” SF fans, and don’t have the understanding that years, nay, decades, of being a “core” fan gives of the style, expectations, and deep norms of the genre.

And the truth is the opposite – many of us here cut our teeth on the classics, often starting in first or second grade, devoured hundreds of books before we were even into high school, with a range that goes back to the 30’s and 40’s (and earlier… Wells, Twain, etc..) and everything since.

Our revulsion to the current “grey goo” as Sarah calls it, and love of the indy, the human wave, and what Castalia publishes, is BECAUSE we are deeply steeped in the norms of classic SF. We respect it, and we love it – the pulp/adventure, and the deeply thoughtful pieces – and view the current superficial thoughtless mono-ideological dreck as a betrayal of what we hold dear.
