Room-Temperature Superconductor

Posted July 27, 2023 By John C Wright

The First Room-Temperature Ambient-Pressure Superconductor
This article is from Arvix, an open-access archive scholarly articles. Not peer-reviewed.

The following is commentary from Alex Kaplan on Twitter, now X.

Today might have seen the biggest physics discovery of my lifetime. I don’t think people fully grasp the implications of an ambient temperature & pressure superconductor. Here’s how it could totally change our lives.
1. 100 billion kWh of electricity are wasted on transmission losses each year in the US alone. That’s equivalent to 3 of our largest nuclear reactors running 24/7. Superconductivity enables lossless electricity transmission at high voltages and currents.

News Blackout

Posted July 25, 2023 By John C Wright

Story from Not the Bee: I reprint the column in its entirety, without comment. The words below are theirs.

Did you hear about the officer who stopped a heavily-armed man named Mohamad from shooting up a street fair in Fargo last week?

by Joel Abbott
Jul 21, 2023 · NottheBee.com

Did you hear about the shooting in North Dakota? No? Why not?

Don’t we have national news corporations?

Let’s see: A man had a grenade, three semi-auto rifles with 53 magazines, four handguns with at least 10 magazines, and nearly 2,000 rounds of ammo… you’d think CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC would be all over this story to push gun control!!

Ah, but the hero was a white cop, the villain was a man named Mohamad, and the people in danger were in a conservative town.

Lepanto Interview

The Lepanto Institute did me the honor of asking to interview me regarding my conversion experience for their Anchor Team podcast an episode titled “Twitch Upon the Thread.”

“I caught him, with an unseen hook and an invisible line which is long enough to let him wander to the ends of the world, and still to bring him back with a twitch upon the thread.” –G.K. Chesterton

Thrawn and the King of Ireland’s Son

Posted July 20, 2023 By John C Wright

Well, you learn something new every day: the word “Thrawn” (for which the Star Wars character is no doubt named) is an Irish word:

1. Twisted, crooked, distorted, misshapen, deformed; awry, turned in a wrong direction.

2. Combs. thrawn-leggit-rumplet, having the legs or haunches crooked or deformed.

I found the term in CELTIC WONDER TALES (1910) by Ella Young, where we read:

One day the Son of the Gobhaun Saor was sitting outside in the sunshine, cutting a little reed into a pipe to make music with. He was so busy that he never saw three stranger-men coming till they were close to him. He looked up then and saw three thrawn-faced churls wrapped in long cloaks. “Good morrow to you,” said the Son of the Gobhaun Saor. “Good morrow,” said they. “We have come to say a word to the Son of the Gobhaun Saor.” “He is before you,” said the Son. “We have come,” said the most thrawn-faced of the three, “from the King of the Land Under Wave to ask you to help him; he has a piece of work that none of his own people can do, and you have the cleverness of the Three Worlds in your fingers.” “‘Tis my father has that,” said the Son of the Gobhaun Saor. “Well,” said the other, “bring your father with you to the Land Under Wave and your fortune’s made.”

The Son of the Gobhaun Saor set off at that to find his father. “I have the news of the world for you and your share of fortune out of it,” he said. “What news? ” said the Gobhaun. “The King of the Land Under Wave has sent for me; if you come with me your fortune is made.” “Did he send you a token?” “No token at all, but do you think I would not know his messengers? ” “O, ’tis you has the cleverness!” said the Gobhaun Saor.

They set out next morning, and as they were going along, the Gobhaun Saor said: “Son, shorten the way for me.” “How could I do that? ” said the Son, “if your own two feet can’t shorten it.” “Now, do you think,” said the father, “that you’ll make my fortune and your own too when you can’t do a little thing like that!” and he went back to the house.

The Son sat down on a stone with his head on his hands to think how he could shorten the road, but the more he thought of it the harder it seemed, and after a while he gave up thinking and began to look round him.

To discover what happens, and the truth of it, my dears, you may needs must read the tale, and your heart’s delight might be found.

And now, the next time a churl wags his tongue at you, you may mock and rail against him as “thrawn-faced” and use other hard words.

Myself, I smile most on a book called KING OF IRELAND’S SON (1916), written by Padraic Colum and adorned by Willy Pogany. There are perhaps places to find it online, where you may read free of charge, asking leave or let of no man, for it is in that great domain we call the public domain.

Paul Harvey: The Founding Fathers

Posted July 4, 2023 By John C Wright

From Paul Harvey’s immortal THE REST OF THE STORY
Our Founders had everything to lose and nothing to gain … except one thing.

“Posterity! you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.” — John Adams, 2nd President.

“Posterity — you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.” -John Quincy Adams, son of John Adams, 6th President.

Sudden Catastrophic Downfall?

Posted June 20, 2023 By John C Wright

Trenchant observations from of Kunstler.com

He begins:

Strange Days

Videos of widespread military vehicle maneuvers around our nation popped up on the Web at mid-weekend while the American citizenry went about its holiday weekend business (including Father’s Day revels and “Juneteenth” celebration mass shootings): Scenes of armored personnel carriers rolling down Walnut Street in downtown Philly; B2 bomber wings over Minnesota; Tank columns galumphing along a California highway… leading to widespread suspicions that something untoward is up. Durned if I know what it is.

Among things one can know: The “Joe Biden” presidency is whirling around the drain in plain sight, and with it, likely, the Globalist hopes and dreams of making everybody eat bugs while they take away everything you own.

Secular Fundamentalism

Posted June 17, 2023 By John C Wright

Here is the latest from the interview Archbishop Cordileone gave recently on LifeSiteNews. This is in regard to the most recent public display of christhate put on by the LA Dodgers.

“They are celebrating this blatant anti- Catholic bigotry–and anti-Christian because they are not only mocking nuns, they are blaspheming Our Lord…This a blatant attack on all true Christian believers…I hope the alarm bells are going off in the minds of our people they see how serious this situation is. We cannot afford to be complacent any more.”

And All the Powers of Hell!

Posted June 2, 2023 By John C Wright

My beautiful and talented wife reports, that, at long last, the final installment of her essay Defending the Wood Perilous. She may, in time, write more on the subject, but this is the culmination of the original theme.

https://ljagilamplighterwright.substack.com/p/and-all-the-powers-of-hell

Who is the greatest peril of all?

Who is the danger who, more than any other, has managed to convince the modern world not to be afraid of him?

Who has done such a good job of publicly de-clawing himself that he has convinced us that he does not exist?

The Devil.

If we truly wish to Defend the Wood Perilous, to put heart back into heroes and soul back into stories, we have to give the Devil his due by restoring to him his perilousness.

He is the most dangerous destructive being in the universe—and yet most modern people chuckle if his name is mentioned. This is a far greater con than the Spider and the Tiger. This is the greatest con ever pulled.

I thought this next part was going to be hard. Then I read of a real-life visit to Hell, and I realized… to restore the true majesty and depravity of the Devil, all we need to do is break his spell.

On Logismoi

Posted May 31, 2023 By John C Wright

Wisdom from our Eastern Orthodox brethren concerning Logismoi which is the struggle to bring thoughts into meek obedience. Our own PJ Wizard brought this useful word to my attention.

Here are some excerpts from the Mountain of Silence by Kyriacos Markides in his conversation with Fr. Maximos (now Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol) on the stages of Logismoi:

“The holy elders,” Father Maximos claimed, “identify five stages in the development of a logismos. Of course, I am speaking of a logismos that goes contrary to God’s laws. The first is the assault stage, when the logismos first attacks our mind.”

“Let me give you an example. A thought enters our mind in the form of a suggestion urging us, let us say, to steal. It is as if this logismos knocks at the door of our mind and tells us: ‘Look at this pile of money. Nobody is looking. Take it.’

“When such a logismos strikes, no matter how sinful it may be, it does not render us accountable,” Father Maximos explained. “The quality of our spiritual state is not evaluated on the basis of these assaults. In simple language we commit no sin. The holy elders throughout the ages were relentlessly tempted and assaulted by similar and even worse logismoi.

“The second stage according to the holy elders is what they called interaction.

Superversion and Lit Rebellion

Posted May 19, 2023 By John C Wright

Mr. Brandon Quakkelaar of Lit Rebellion website pens an article about Superversive Literature and our need for it.

What does Superversive Mean?

The first mention of superversive that I could find on Simon’s blog was from all the way back in 2003. Then, in 2014, the word was used in the title of The Superversive Literary Movement.

Tom Simon, and others in the movement, recognized that fiction and storytelling has been increasingly used as propaganda to undermine virtue and traditional values. He asserts that a concept that he calls “superversion” is the solution to the problem.

Modern storytelling, whether it be in the form of songs, poems, television shows, movies, or books has been progressively tearing down our cultural foundations by trying to convince the audience that lies are truth, ugliness is beautiful, and evil is good. Superversion is the antidote to such societal decay.

Sabataean Frankists

I find it interesting that I have never heard, before today, of the Frankists nor their theories or practices. But please note the parallel between their doctrines and everything I have been discussing in my ongoing series of articles on Unhumanity.
