Prayer Request

Posted November 14, 2023 By John C Wright

From our own Stephen J

My 79-year-old mother suffered a bad fall on Friday morning and went into the hospital, and while she was there tested positive for COVID (first test given the day she was admitted came back positive, so she almost certainly didn’t contract it there). The various tests done for physical injuries or things that might have caused the fall have all come back negative, but the COVID symptoms themselves have gotten worse due to stress, enforced inactivity, lack of restful sleep and inability to eat much, so the hospital has put her on antibiotics and antivirals and are keeping her there until the end of the week rather than releasing her tomorrow as originally planned. (My dad has also contracted it, but he’s in generally better shape and has been able to take Paxlovid to fend off the symptoms.)

While the stats these days on mortality, even at that age range, are reasonably optimistic, I would still welcome all the prayers anybody has time to offer. Many thanks, especially to Mr. Wright for creating a community where I can ask this.

Prayer Request

Posted January 20, 2022 By John C Wright

From our own Mrs. Rousseau:

My daughter’s little American godson, Luke (born September 2021), had his first and successful surgery last week for a smaller than normal lower jaw impairing his breathing, sleep and eating. Prayers of thanks are in order for this one.

Multiple procedures will follow in the future. Also, Luke is expected to be very hard of hearing or deaf because of his condition, one more miracle to pray for.

If you want to know a bit more, or help materially a young family in need, there are a couple of links on my page.

Thank you for your kind attention and prayers.

Prayer Request

Posted January 13, 2021 By John C Wright

A friend send this along:

Catholic Men and other Christian friends,

We are 9 days from January 20, which is the day set by the Constitution for the next Presidential term to begin.  We are in an unprecedented turmoil, chaos, deception, insurrection, and unfaithfulness.  Please add this intention to your personal daily rosary for the next 9 days.

“Pray that the United States will be protected from all enemies foreign, domestic and supernatural! Pray the our Nation will repent and be restored.  Pray that our rightful leader will be in power on January 20th and that he and his family will be protected from harm.”

Please send your own version of this email to all Christians that you know!

Christus Vincit!  Salve Regina!

A Word of Encouragement

Posted January 8, 2021 By John C Wright

I write this word of encouragement to those whose ears are fit to hear. You others, you have my respect, but also my pity.

Myself, my faith that Mr. Trump will serve his second term, to which he was lawfully elected by a landslide, is unaltered by recent events.

Things look dark. We live in an Empire of Lies, where all the publicly controlled information has been corrupted to the point where nothing can be trusted, not even basic information. The deception is at times blatant and at times subtle. At times, it is so subtle that even a trained skeptic on his guard can be deceived, and unwittingly adopt the assumptions language of the enemy, and spread his ideas.

In the absence of trustworthy facts, it is rational to rely on assumptions issuing from eternal truths.

Novena for our Nation

Posted August 18, 2020 By John C Wright

Those among the faithful who make it a habit to pray the rosary, are invited to join in a Novena for our nation. The idea is to pray fifty ‘Hail Mary’ prayers, one for each state, and also to remember our president, congressmen, jurists, and state and local officials.

Prayer Request

Posted August 8, 2020 By John C Wright

It is becoming more and more evident that the political process is no longer a contest between two parties with a similar vision of a constitutional republic with liberty and justice for all, differing only on matters of tactics and priorities.

In this generation, it has become a contest between heaven and hell, and the evil is satanic indeed, ranging from infanticide before birth to euthanasia before death, with lies, more lies and ever more damnable lies, violence, hatred, pederasty, sodomy, self-castration, vulgarity, ugliness, filth, corruption, riot, despair, and anarchy throughout.

As with most such contests here on Earth, the side of heaven is staffed with sinners, the poor, the weak, the broken, the despised, harlots and publicans, with an odd Pharisee thrown in for ironic contrast.

On the other side are Lords of Hell, roaring, large, coated with gold and glory, dignity and pomp, honored for their wisdom and compassion, adored as demigods, flattered, lauded, praised, larded with all the rewards this world can bestow.

Perhaps you are tired of hearing the next election is the most significant in the history of the Republic. I am sure a dying man suffering one more drastic surgery after a series to save his life would likewise much rather his next operation be routine. An election which was not a plebiscite on whether to end or continue our national existence would likewise be preferable.

Prayer is needed. More things are wrought by prayer than men know.

Update to a Prayer Request

Posted January 29, 2020 By John C Wright
From a reader:
CT scans show that my aunt’s brain is swollen (no bleeding) but she’s in a coma and hasn’t woken up. My family will be bringing her out of the hospital soon and will be caring for her at home. Thank you all for your prayers.
Almighty and Eternal God,
You are the everlasting health of those who believe in You.
Hear us for Your sick servant
for whom we implore the aid of Your tender mercy,
that being restored to bodily health,
she may give thanks to You in Your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.

An Open Letter to Gnos Tic

Posted January 27, 2020 By John C Wright

After prayer and reflection, I feel I owe you and my other readers an apology. You and I have exchanged insults, which, until now, I thought was the normal roughhousing and horseplay two men of equal status, wit, and maturity (or lack thereof) could exchange with no harm done and no hard feelings.

But, at the promptings of the Holy Spirit, I now realize that this was far from the case, even the opposite of the truth. A man of my age, wit, and status should not mock someone of yours. The contest is uneven.

I should have found a way to tell you the horrible truth about your life, not to mention the peril to your mortal soul, without overstepping the bounds of courtesy and Christian charity.

I should have all this time been treating you as a beloved child of heaven, made in the holy image and likeness of Almighty God.

Because, like it or not, that is the truth about you. It is a truth too good to be true, and a truth too hard for you to accept.

I do not ask you for forgiveness, since I know you well enough to know how such a petition would be heard, but I make this public confession to assure my other readers that I seek to mend my ways and will attempt avoid the further temptation.

Any prayers from the faithful to high heaven to aid my endless struggle against my own overweening pride would be appreciated.

Sarcasm and contempt are my daily speech, and this is the talk from hell. Heavenly words are more beautiful and more biting, because less shallow.

May heaven grant me the strength of mind and wideness of heart to leave my shallow nature behind. Only the weak minded are ruled by emotions and passions. I am shamed to count myself this day among their number.

A reader writes to ask:

About a week ago my aunt choked on her food and lost consciousness for a good amount of time before getting to the hospital. She’s in the ICU with stable vitals but it’s unknown whether she suffered any brain damage from lack of oxygen. I am requesting prayers for my aunt’s recovery.

A Day of Prayer and Fasting for Tennessee

Posted October 10, 2019 By John C Wright

Today, 10 Oct, is a day of prayer and fasting, of thanksgiving and forgiveness, declared by the governor of Tennessee for the people and state of Tennessee.

I am from Virginia, to which normally my patriotic loyalty would cleave, but, at the moment, we have a governor who publicly supports infanticide, and a state’s attorney credibly accused of rape.

My governor has not called a statewide day of prayer and fasting, and so if heaven showers Tennessee with even more blessings than she now enjoys, we Virginians shall have none to blame but our heathen governor.

I would like to invite my readers also to pray for Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free.

Write letters to your statehouse or governor’s mansion, friends, and perhaps more states will do likewise.

A Prayer for Solomon Kane screenplay

Posted September 13, 2019 By John C Wright
A reader asked me to pass along a prayer request from Mr. Richard Mark Huffman:
“Last night I was invited to have my agent send my Solomon Kane screenplay to the company that holds the IP rights to Robert E. Howard’s characters. It’s a good script, lots of supernatural action and old Black Forest folklore, and it really leans in to Solomon Kane’s identity as a Puritan. As such, it’s naturally very Christian, with plenty of opportunities to put Scripture and Biblical truth in Kane’s mouth without being preachy.

I’d love it to get made, is the point. Prayers appreciated!” *

*Also that Tom Hiddleston will star in a Solomon Kane trilogy.

The case stuck me for It’s complete inequivocable inhumanity, and I’ll leave it to the gentle readers to inform themselves on the matter Because the details, the judge’s conduct and the British diplomacy’s countenance in this case are making me feel physically sick.
