Whitsunday
Well, one interesting thing about converting to Christianity is that there is so much rich and varied background to Christianity. There is always something new to learn.
We have another holiday, equal in dignity to Easter and Christmas, of which the heathens do not hear. Fifty days after Easter is the Pentecost, celebrated since ancient times. Whitsunday (White Sunday) is so called for the white robes of the petitioners baptised during the vigil. It is the celebration of the birth of the Church, the arrival of the Holy Spirit on Earth.
Now if only there was a famous cartoon character, like Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny, to market this holiday, or if Charles Dickens had written a book about it, then it would be well known. My suggestion is SPACE GHOST. He could be seen descending in his Phantom Cruiser to give gifts to good little boys and girls, defeating Brak and Zorak the space-criminals, and using his Power Rays to energize the Seven Gifts of the Spirit: Fear of the Lord, Knowledge, Understanding, Piety, Fortitude, Counsel, and Wisdom. Blip the space monkey could appear in the form of a dove, with a double-forked flame glowing on his head. After the solemn festivities, and granting the gift of tongues to the Galactic Patrol, the Space Ghost returns to his Ghost Planet in the Omicron Sector. Jan and Jace go to Rome and get crucified and beheaded.
Well, maybe not. But then again, it is not any more or less true to the original than Santy or the Easter Bunny, is it? And since the Armies of Darkness are bent on removing Easter Eggs and Santa Clause as well as other signs of Easter and Christmas from every public celebration, court house, and town hall, may it is time for Christian to take the initiative, and start adding MORE symbols and festive color to the world.
