Saluting a Cryptocurrency Company

Those of you following the news know that the Canadian trucker convoy, who gathered to block traffic in protest, at first, of mandated injections at borders crossings, and, later, of curfews, internment camps, and other totalitarian measures by the Canadian government.

The Canadian government moved unlawfully to against their bank assets under a modern form of Bill of Attainder (conviction before trial) and Corruption of the Blood (property seizure), by freezing their bank accounts.

However, those who had invested in cryptocurrency were not as vulnerable.

A Canadian court issued a Mareva Injunction against crypto wallet provider Nunchuk, among other intermediaries and individuals, ordering it to disclose user information and freeze any assets related to the Freedom Convoy 2022 protests.

The Order provides, in part:

THIS COURT ORDERS that each Mareva Respondent shall prepare and provide to the Plaintiffs, within 7 days of the date of service of this Order, a sworn statement describing the nature, value, and location of his or her assets worldwide, whether in his own name or not and whether solely or jointly owned, which are being used, have been earmarked for, or are intended to be used to fund, directly or indirectly, activities associated with the Freedom Convoy protests in or around the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada which began on or about January 29, 2022 worldwide, including but not limited to any digital assets (and any associated cryptocurrency wallet addresses).

Nunchuk’s reply was polite, was in full accord with the law, and was awe inspiring.

Dear Ontario State Court of Justice,

Nunchuk is a self-custodial, collaborative-multisig and Bitcoin wallet.

We are software providers, not a custodial financial intermediary.

Our software is free to use. It allows users to eliminate single points of failure and store bitcoin in the safest way possible, while preserving privacy.

We do not collect any user identification information other than email address. We do not hold any keys. Therefore:

    •  We cannot “freeze” our users’ assets.
    •  We cannot “prevent” them from being moved.
    •  We do not have knowledge of “the existence, nature, value and location” of our users’ assets. This is by design.

Please look up how self-custody and the private keys work.

When the Canadian dollar becomes worthless, we will be there to serve you too.

Sincerely,

The Nunchuk Team
