Newspaperman and Comedian

From time to time, the mask slips.

Here is the dialog between Washington Post reporter Philip Bump and host Noah Dworman, a comedy club owner.

Mr. Bump repeatedly asserts that there is “no evidence” that Joe Biden got money from Hunter’s business dealing with foreign nationals. That led to this exchange:

NOAH DWORMAN, HOST, OWNER, COMEDY CELLAR: What do you take from his text to his adult daughter — Hunter texted her I had to give 50% of my income to Pop.

PHILIP BUMP, WASHINGTON POST: I have no idea what that means. I don’t. I have no idea what that means.

DWORMAN: It’s —

BUMP: It’s circumstantial evidence and you prefer that to direct evidence.

DWORMAN: No. What could it be?

BUMP: I have no idea. I appreciate your ambition.

DWORMAN: Has anybody asked her?

BUMP: I don’t know. I don’t know!

DWORMAN: Don’t you think somebody should ask her?

BUMP: Okay. Like I just said that I don’t know and that I don’t what to make of it so I have nothing to say about it. What do you want me to say?

DWORMAN: Yeah, but you say there is no evidence, there’s no evidence but then there is a text message where he says I give Pop 50% of my money. That’s evidence.

BUMP: Okay. Fine. It’s evidence.

DWORMAN: So –

BUMP: I appreciate you having me on.

Mr. Bump then accuses Dworman of having an improper motive for asking these questions, namely, pestering him with untoward questions until he is forced to leave in a huff, so that the event can be publicized for more views. In Mr. Bump’s words, “I feel like you want me to leave and just walk out in the middle of this because that way you can link it.”

He then walks out of the interview.

Mr. Bump describes the incident on Twitter:

For those not familiar with the name, Mr. Bump gained fame for his gaslighting the public during the Trump administration, followed by steadfast and public refusal to admit wrong in any of his reporting on the Russia Hoax, the Impeachment Hoax, and so on, long after these frauds had been exposed and exploded. He continues to insist that Donald J Trump is a paid spy for the Kremlin.

I wish to emphasize that this Mr. Bump is allegedly a newspaperman, that is, allegedly a man whose job, for which he is paid money, is to investigate, ask questions, and report on the issues of the day, including scandals involving public figures.

Mr. Bump here reacts with impatient mock-bewilderment, as if he cannot fathom of the concept that if he does not know something about an important scandal in the news, as a newsman, his job is to go ask questions and report it to the public. That is what he is paid to do.

I say he is allegedly a newspaperman. What he actually is, is not just a political operative and a forked-tongue hack: He is a missionary.

He regards us as backward savages, and himself as Mr. Livingstone, here to bring the gospel of Progressivism, Marxism, Wokeness, Satanist Pedophilia (or whatever they are calling themselves these days) to our benighted brains. Any pious frauds needed to sway the public to his faith is justified.

This is all very disheartening, unless you expect honesty from a man who makes his living telling lies.

(Trivia note: The actress in the bed was Sharyn Hillyer. She also had at least one part in Get Smart as the girl in the airplane seat next to Don Adams, on whom he spills a drink. Cultural note: Hollywood has always glamorized and supported sin, but sexual sins particularly.)

I suspect Mr. Bump (a perfect name for the wight) will be rewarded rather than criticized by his masters for his loyalty.

I am convinced that the liars know they are lying, we know they are lying, they know we know, and they lie anyway.

In their world, truth does not exist, only opinion, and to assert opinions is an act of power over contrary opinions. So they state opinions contrary to truth in order to pretend to have power over truth: it is an act of Satanic pride.

Do they believe their own lies? The question is unanswerable. Political Correctness is factual incorrectness, or, in other words, self-deception. When the axiom of a man’s life is self-deception, it is impossible to say what he believes. For if the self-deception is successful, he is deceived, and, if not, he pretends to be.

One may be tempted to believe a sudden question or unguarded moment will allow shame or shock to break through the psychotic pretense. But no. The whole point of the pretense is to smother shame. Imagine the protagonist of a weird tale by H.P. Lovecraft, whom the truth drives mad: his self-interest, if not his sanity, depend on fleeing the truth at all costs. So here: Truth brings shame. A shameless man cannot be startled into shame. His whole elaborate mental machinery of self-deception is erected for no other purpose than to maintain his shamelessness.  One cannot wake the man who pretends to sleep. He is, as it were, already woke.

Mr. Bump in that discussion did not look the least bit flustered or put out. He looked smug.

Satanic smugness, as it were.
