Freestartr still stalled

Posted August 21, 2018 By John C Wright

Jagi, here.

Sadly, Freestartr is still unable to collect funds. We will give them until the beginning of October before we consider giving up on them. We are still hoping they will recover.

In the meantime, Freestartr patreons, you can wait, too, or send your monthly contribution through Paypay, as you wish.

To both Freestartr and Patreon folks, and those who support us directly, we are so very, very grateful for the support of all you guys !!!

On a somewhat related subject, because of carelessness by yours truly, there is no recording of this month’s live chat. John and I are going to try to make it up to Action Team Swan by recording a brainstorming period  or some other conversation on book related topics between the two of us.

Thanks, all!  And God bless!

Freestartr Paused

Posted July 22, 2018 By John C Wright

Folks, Jagi, here.

Just wanted to let the Freestartr folks know that Stripe dropped Freestartr, so they are unable to collect money and pass it onto us.

They are working to solve this problem, but…it looks as if it will not happen this month.

You are all welcome to just wait. We are waiting patiently and saying a prayer for them. But…if any one feels moved to send what would have been their Freestartr donation through Paypal just for July, it would be received with much gratitude.

Thanks!

Jagi

Latest in my lovely and talented wife’s series about the attack on fairy tales by the powers of darkness:

You live in a fairy tale. What fairytale? For that, you shall have to read the first part of this series on Defending The Wood Perilous, which you can find here. The second part explains why the Wood Perilous needs defending. The third part discusses what it is about fairy tales that make them perilous to the forces of modernity.

Now, without further ado:

Part Four:  A Disgrace to the Forces of Evil!

Heroism is so deadly to the Degenerati [those partaking in the degenerate forces of modernity] that even villains cannot be majestic. In many of these stories, only the bad and tawdry things were exalted. True villainy, of the majestic kind, was also banished.

Don’t believe me?

Notice how one is snide and confident, while the other looks teary-eyed and weak.

If you search for Malificent, both these ladies show up, but only the original version of Malificent shows up if you search for one of her most famous quotes: Now shall you deal with ME, O Prince, and all the powers of Hell!”

There’s a reason for that.

Both these women may share the same malicious and magnificent name, but only one of them deserves it.

Victor Von Doom does not approve.

To those of us whose eyes are not blinded by the putrid bile that fills the eyes of the Degenerati, villainy seems, well, vile. An impressive bad guy is still a bad guy, and bad guys are bad. And so we see them, whether they are wimpy villains or majestic villains OF DOOM!

What do I mean by majestic? Imagine an enormous, black, basalt fortress stretching as far as the eye can see. It is vast and impregnable, with arrow slits and crenelations. And atop those, crenelations, a man stands calm, imperious, implacable–and set upon your destruction. Nothing sways him. Nothing disturbs him. He speaks a word and a hundred, thousand, million minions all jump into action to obey him.

Those of us not yet blinded by darkness often prefer our villains majestic. But to those whose hearts have been corrupted, majesty itself is despised.

Why? Because the more impressive the villains, the more impressive the hero who defeats him.

In real fairy tales, both the hero and the villain can be majestic. In the twisted modern stories, no one is majestic. The heroes are not brave and glorious, and the villains are not fierce and awe-inspiring.

In fact, nothing is awe-inspiring at all.

Superversive Press Fundraiser switches platforms

Posted June 19, 2018 By John C Wright

Hello, all! Jagi, here

As some of you may know, Freestartr lost their Stripe account yesterday…out of the blue and for political reasons, so they cannot currently collect funds.

This should not affect John’s Freestartr account as they assure us that they are working on a solution and plan to continue!

But, it does affect the Superversive crowdsourced fundraiser, as it was a timely matter. So, Superversive is switching our campaign to Indiegogo.

If you donated to the now-defunct Freestartr campaign, Superversive would be very grateful if you considered signing up again. You can still pick all the same great perks, including the ultimate…have a Superversive author write a short story to your specs!

Either way, thank you all for your support!

Help Needed — Fanboys to the rescue!

Posted May 27, 2018 By John C Wright

Hey folks,

Jagi, here.

So…several of you made excellent suggestions regarding the idea of us contacting Youtubers who are speaking out against SJW Star Wars and telling them about Starquest and our upcoming Starquest campaign.

John and I are good at many things but…apparently reaching Youtubers is not one of them. So far, our efforts have failed abysmally. ;-(

Do any of you interact with any of these folks? Would any of you be willing to contact them, leave messages on their blog, etc.? You can share the original post with them and the first episode. Let them know that it is being written up as a new series. (Also, it is easier to hawk someone else’s stuff than one’s own. )

The Review of the Movie We’ve All Been Waiting For

Crowdsourcing Starquest

Posted May 17, 2018 By John C Wright

Jagi, here.

John and I are toying with the idea of trying a crowdsourcing campaign (like Kickstarter, but not sure which one we’d use yet) to see if we could fund some time for him to finish Starquest, rather than have to immediately find a new day job.

Not a sure thing yet, but if we did: Any kind of prize or stretch goal you guys might like to see?

Planetary: Venus

Posted February 15, 2018 By John C Wright

In honor of St. Valentine’s Day, here is Planetary: Venus   — the anthology edited by Uberfan A. M. Freeman and my lovely and talented wife. This volume also includes a short story that takes place in the Prospero’s Children background and features Miranda and Astreus honeymooning in fairyland.

Venus, the second planet from the sun, a world of sulfurous gas and tremendous temperatures where the landscape features—mountains and valleys—are all named for love goddesses. Venus herself is the goddess most known for allure and romance.

Here are twenty stories featuring Venus, the planet, the goddess, or just plain love—both romantic and otherwise. Planetary Fiction explores the themes associated with these heavenly bodies as well as their astronomical, mythological, and in some cases even alchemical significance.

Just Look, I’ll Be There, by A. M. Freeman —A Gypsy boy leaves Venus for the stars, but his beloved’s eyes shine brightest of all.

Morning And Evening Star, by David Hallquist — A honeymoon among the sulfurous fumes of Venus takes an unexpected turn.

90 Seconds, by Bokerah Brumley — Online video blogger heads to Venus for the ultimate extreme sports, and jumps into something more than just the sky.

The Wrong Venus, by Lou Antonelli — The worst criminals are sent to a high security prison on Venus, but an intrepid criminal might get himself sent to a different Venus.

Enemy Beloved, by Monalisa Foster —  Love is blind. But what will happen when the blindness ends and the terrible truth is reveled?

Texente Tela Veneris, by Edward Willett — If you could change the history of your love life, would you? That is the question a pair of tourists on a remote Grecian island must answer.

Happiest Place On Earth, by Misha Burnett — A story of pure love in an unexpected place.

Love Boat To Venus, by Declan Finn — On a tour around the solar system, elite fighters pause to give marital advice, until they are interrupted.

Venus Times Three, by Vanessa L Landry — Two lawyers travel to Mars to settle a will that, inexplicably, involves Venus. Will they be able to untangle this complicated web?

Avalon, by Dawn Witzke – A new school on Venus brings new opportunities for a young man to escape the shadow of his childhood friend.

The Rituals Of Venus, by Joshua M. Young — A hero fights cultists among the jungles of Venus for the sake of his love. Can he save her?

First Cat In Space, by  Dana Bell — Some cat has to be lucky enough to be the first cat in space.

Venus Felix, by W. J. Hayes — A routine day at the bar turns into anything but for this gumshoe, when robots begin shooting at a newcomer.

The Rocket Raising, by Frederic Himebaugh — A young girl must choose between marrying her love and venturing to a new world for the sake of her people.

Star-Crossed, by Julie Frost — A werewolf detective helps an unlikely client in her revenge after her lover is murdered, but old memories aren’t the only thing that comes back.

Honeymoon In Fairland, by L. Jagi Lamplighter   — Can love and trust be rekindled between a betrayed husband and his wife? Even when they are as powerful as Gods?

37 Shades of Yellow, by J.D. Beckwith — The new Venus base is up and running, but what does it take to live there when your wife is homesick for Earth?

The Fox’s Fire, by Danielle Ackley-McPhail — A spirited fox spirit seeks love in ancient America.

Smiley The Robot, by Amy Sterling Casil — An old woman living alone on Venus finds herself falling for Smiley, the police robot.

Stones In High Places, by Jane Lebak — A dying world watches with anguish as a young one awaits its demise, until one man conceives of a way to save them, but it will take an act of unprecedented love.

Swan Knight’s Son Chosen for Charity Comic!

Posted January 25, 2018 By John C Wright

According to Vox Popoli:

Now, here is the interesting question. Since Swan Knight’s Son appeared to be the favorite of the backers thus far, I sent a copy to Chuck Dixon to see if it would require five or six issues to adapt properly, thinking that this might leave two issues free for a novella or a pair of one-offs. Such as, perhaps, One Bright Star or The Wardog’s Coin. Chuck’s opinion was that the book would actually work best as four issues, which means that if the backers wish, all three books of the trilogy could be done in the space of the two graphic novels. Presumably Swan Knight’s Son and Swan Knight’s Sword, with Feast of the Elfs being divided between them.

Now, I know devoting both graphic novels to John C. Wright’s excellent fantasy series would probably disappoint those who would prefer to see The Stars Came Back or Rocky Mountain Retribution, but then, the campaign isn’t over yet, so it’s entirely possible that we’ll have 18 issues or more to contemplate; after all, we still have four days to go and Stretch Goal 4 is less than $15k away.
For more information about the campaign:

There is still time to support the campaign:
