Six Degrees of Sarah Hoyt!

Posted November 29, 2016 By John C Wright

So I am listening to one of the ‘Members Only’ videos from Bill Whittle’s ‘the Right Angle’ program where he, Scott Ott and Steve Green are discussing the recent attempt by leftwing sites like Google and Facebook to label conservative news as ‘FakeNews’ in order to justify excising them from their newsfeeds. This, Bill Whittle opines, will harm the reputation and damage their sales of the leftwing sites, since they will be sacrificing their primary product they sell (communications, networking and websearch) in order to promote political correctness.

At four and a half minutes into the program, Bill Whittle says that there is an idea he had from a female science fiction and fantasy writer about the fact that the industries turn hard left whenever they are dying of Leftism, which is to say, the admins in any industry dying from an overdose of political correctness will increase the dose rather than return to the core mission of the industry, because while killing off the company is bad for the company, it makes them personally martyrs for the cause of Leftism and allows them personally to find another and better job in any Left-leaning company.

He apologized that could not recall her name, but Steve Green chimed in that this was the theory of his good friend and neighbor, Sarah Hoyt.

She, of course, is one of the founding members, along with yours truly, Larry Correia, and Vox Day, of the Evil Legion of Evil Authors.

I was delighted to discover that a personal hero of mine is friends with a mutual friend. Small world, eh? Read the remainder of this entry »

Theology Corner!

Posted November 28, 2016 By John C Wright

Since I have forsworn commenting on politics under after Advent, I thought I would share a letter I wrote in reply to some questions from a reader on a theological matter:

Once we are convinced that men have free will, and that the supernatural must exist if the natural order exists, this leaves us with three impending questions:

  1. What is a god?
  2. Is there only one?
  3. Is Christ God?

To answer the first question first is simple for anyone familiar with pagan writings: The God is not a god.

I am someone who has read myths and believes of ancient or primitive peoples all my life, so to me, even back when I was an atheist, the answer is quite painfully obvious.

The God, the one God of monotheism, claims to be the eternal, all knowing, benevolent and all powerful sovereign creator of the universe as well as being the source legislating and the legitimate authority enforcing the universal moral law. He is, in short, the Supreme Being.

A being is called Supreme when there is none equal to him in age, power, wisdom, benevolence nor authority, and none above him.

HONOR AT STAKE for Today Only!

Posted November 28, 2016 By John C Wright

An announcement from our friend Declan Finn:

The Dragon Award Nominated Honor at Stake is now available, for Cyber Monday only, for $.99 on Kindle.

This Catholic Vampire novel managed to … um… stake… its claim for originality by using Catholic theology and natural law philosophy in the development of its vampire lore (with some microbiology thrown in for fun).

As the description says…

One is a heartless, blood thirsty monster.

The other is a vampire.

College freshman, Amanda Colt knows few people and wants to know fewer still. She enjoys fencing and prefers facing a challenge every once in a while. She is beautiful, smart, and possibly the most interesting person on campus…and most people stop after the first adjective.

Then she finds Marco Catalano in her fencing class. He is tall, attractive, and very intense. With a mind like a computer and manners of a medieval knight, he scares most people. Except Amanda. They both havesecrets, for they are both monsters.

As they draw closer, they must find the line between how much they can trust each other, and how much they can care for each other. Each carries a secret that can destroy the other. They must come to grips with their personal drama soon, because a darkness is rising. Bodies are turning up all over New York, and an army of vampires is closing in on all sides.

They have only one hope … each other. Read the remainder of this entry »

A Grateful Thank You

Posted November 25, 2016 By John C Wright

Hey all, Jagi here.

For Thanksgiving, I wanted to take one more opportunity to thank you all for your wonderful generosity during our hour of need this fall. God has been incredibly gracious to us in His bestowal of kind and generous fans.

It is such a blessing to have light in the kitchen again–we used that when cooking our Thanksgiving dinner last night, and I am particularly grateful to you all every time I take a step…a non-painful step.

Last time I wrote a thank you here, two of you sent enough money for me to buy new shoes! Now, a woman buying shoes might sound frivolous, so perhaps I should explain.

Not counting winter boots and ballet slippers, I own four pairs of shoes. One is a $7 pair of black dancing pumps that I haven’t worn in years. One is my trusty pair of sandals that I wear from May to October. That left a pair of leather mocs (moccasin style shoes) and a pair of running shoes.

I have had the mocs since 2011. They are the wrong size. However, they were a present from my mom and my daughter. I was so touched that the two of them colluded together to buy me shoes that I have worn them, even though they really hurt.

The running shoes were also a present from my mom. I picked these myself. They feel amazing when you put them on, like walking on air. Unfortunately, I did not realize until I got them home that they are not appropriate for walking over the earth. They can only really be used reliably on a flat track.

About a month ago, we went out on a Boy Scout outing. None of my shoes were appropriate, but I wore the mocs, and limped around until they literally split open.

So, thanks to you all… I now have a really nice pair of new, Land’s End black suede mocs that fit my feet and don’t hurt, and I can actually walk around without thinking about every step…which is a true joy.

So, today: I am thankful for family. I am thankful for friends. I am thankful for loyal and generous readers, and…I am thankful for each un-painful step.

God bless!

Mrs. John C. Wright

The Tortoise and the Hare

Posted November 23, 2016 By John C Wright

It is not yet advent, so I have room for one more political screed:

I have been waiting for decades for the Left to push the Right past the tipping point. Maybe the giant will wake again, and, this time, stay awake long enough to fend off the Left.

Perhaps with the election of Trump, the giant has stirred in its sleep.

We often liken the Left to rabbits, because, like rabbits, they are cowardly herd animals who thrive in the abundant seasons. In truth, they are the tortoise, and the Right is the sleeping rabbit. Step by slow and plodding step, for decades, the Left has made plans and carried them out. Anyone who uncovers those plans is denounced as an hysteric, a paranoiac, or a Nazi. But the school system, the news media, the popular entertainment, the law schools, the courts of law, were all taken over completely and thuroughly by a slow, steady, calculated plan which was a century in the making.

Now, as the fleet of foot, we on the Right can make up for lost time quite quickly: but we must make it up.

The election of Trump prevented the very last nail from going into the coffin, and the coffin from being thrown off the sea cliff into the sea, but we are still in a coffin.

Sixty Five for the Eighth Circle

Posted November 22, 2016 By John C Wright

I still have a few days before my Advent vow kicks in, and I will stop writing harangues and screed on the topic of politics.

So I am glad this came in before the threshold date. It is simply too delicious for words. This is a lovely time to be alive, and be conservative. Rejoice all ye who delight in the beauty of truth!

As you may recall, according to Dante, that foremost poet and otherworldly explorer, the Eighth Circle of Hell is reserved for the fraudulent.

Here in separate concentric trenches of endless pain suffer the shades of Panderers and Seducers, eternally scourged; Flatterers floundering in sewage; Simoniacs interred head-downward in baptismal fonts suffering a bastinado of fire; Diviners, Fortune-tellers and Pollsters (I made up that last part) heads facing backward and eyes ever weeping; Grafters and Barrators, submerged in boiling tar; Thieves by serpents tortured, burned, and of human form deprived; Counselors of Fraud tormented by tongues of flame; Schismatics and Scandalmongers lacerated, dismembered, and sliced in half; and finally are Counterfeiters, Alchemists and Falsifiers of Words, scabbed with poxes and scales, scratching and tearing their scabby flesh without cease.

I am not as wise as Minos, Rhadamanthus and Aeacus, so I do not know to which specific malboge of the Eighth Circle our current generation of  journalists are most justly doomed, if they repent not.

But now we know their names.

Tomorrow is the VINDICATION OF MAN

Posted November 21, 2016 By John C Wright

After many overlong years of waiting, Rania returns to Earth, with the verdict of the monstrous alien overlords of M3 decreeing whether mankind is to be an equal and free spacefaring race, or kept in indentured servitude, as serf race unworthy of the stars forever and aye.

And my long-awaited book describing these great and momentous events goes on sale!

Vindication of Man

Did you say you wanted a free sample of the first two chapters? That you wanted to know the events of history from the point of view of Rania, whom we have not seen since volume one? Want no longer! Two free sample chapters await below for your reading pleasure:

We Prefer Minorities

Posted November 19, 2016 By John C Wright

From http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/11/15/is-planned-parenthood-affiliate-fueling-anti-trump-protests.html

The Craigslist ads read: “STOP TRUMP – up to $1500/week. Hiring immediately! Call Today Start tomorrow! $15-$18 hourly rate + bonus + overtime up to 77 hours per week!”

They were placed by a Planned Parenthood affiliate in major cities like Boston, Denver, Columbus, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh right before the election to defeat the candidacy of Donald Trump. However, most of them are still active on Craigslist, fueling questions about whether the group is now among those feeding the post-election anti-Trump protests across the country.

Many of the ads have Planned Parenthood Action, a PAC, emblazoned across the top and all of them list phone numbers belonging to the Community Outreach Group, a for-profit organization formed by Planned Parenthood as “a vendor of large-scale advocacy.” Protesting is among the tasks listed on its website.

MoveOn.org and others already have been linked to the demonstrations. Protesters have been out on the streets since Wednesday and have been mostly peaceful. However, in some instances – like in the city of Portland – police used flash bombs last week to quell an angry mob that lit fires and smashed cars and store windows with bats. One protester was shot by a civilian.

Planned Parenthood and Community Outreach Group have not returned phone calls seeking comment. Planned Parenthood, which received $553.7 million in tax dollars last year, had pledged to spend $30 million to defeat Trump, according to Rolling Stone. The money allegedly came from its super PAC, which “jointly” worked on the ground war, the magazine said.

Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., told FoxNews.com that he wasn’t surprised to hear a possible protest connection to the non-profit women’s health organization.

“I wouldn’t be shocked that this group is going the extra mile to undermine the legitimate transfer of power,” he said. “It comes into question whether they are using taxpayer money appropriately or even legally. This goes above and beyond their duty and ability to provide services for women.”

Other liberal groups have also apparently used the online classified ad site as a means to fuel protests.

MoveOn.org identified themselves in a New York ad, offering $18 an hour and specifying: “We only want protesters under the age of 30 … We prefer minorities.”

If You Can Keep It

Posted November 17, 2016 By John C Wright

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, when queried as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation, Ben Franklin was asked by a lady, “Well, doctor, which is it to be? A monarchy or a republic?” to which he replied, “A republic, madam, if you can keep it.”

The enemies of the republican form of government, and the foes of the human spirit, know very well how to make a society throw its legacy away: merely by teaching the young that being safe, especially being safe from dangerous ideas, is a treasure more precious than freedom.

Raise a generation of fatherless and weak boys to be cowardly men, and vain girls to be selfish and immodest women, and the enemy has done his work. He has vanquished the Union without ever raising a flag, winding a trumpet, or drawing a saber.

The students educated in an Orwellian environment of being protected against all discourse and discord will emerge thinking such things are normal and right, and they will love Big Brother.  They will kiss the gyves and manacles being bolted to their limbs.

From PJ Media:

The artistic genius behind the highly acclaimed conservative satirical site The People’s Cube has been arrested and released on $8,000 bail for putting up pro-Israel posters to combat a pro-Islamist conference at George Mason University. He now faces the prospect of five years in prison for allegedly committing a “class 6 felony.”

Beloved satirist Oleg Atbashian (who has contributed to PJ Media) has gotten in trouble for defying authorities before: “Back in my Soviet dissident days, when I was collecting signatures in defense of Andrei Sakharov, I was screamed at, threatened, and lectured by the KGB and Communist functionaries,” Oleg says. “What I never imagined was that in the United States, the land of the free, I would not only be subjected to similar treatment, but go to jail.”

A Correction

Posted November 16, 2016 By John C Wright

I don’t like to admit I am wrong at the bottom of a long comment thread, when I can do it in public and take my humiliation like a man, but I am wrong when I said this:

Without identity politics, the Alt-Right are no different from Tea Party or from Goldwater conservatives. They are just honest men annoyed at Political Correctness, as all honest men should be.

A read with the erudite yet warlike name of Scholar at Arms writes:

I respectfully disagree. They are “alt” to mainstream conservatism, which has been dragged leftwards, chiefly by National Review. More mainstream conservatives like Bill Whittle refusing to burn incense to the Left’s PC gods and confronting the Pajama Boys like Goldberg & Beck who do would do great things for building relations between Conservatism & the alt-Right.

I confess you have the better of me here. I respectfully accept the correction.

“Conservative” used to mean the people who are not RINO uni-party left-leaning Rockefeller Republicans, and referred to Goldwater Republicans. In fact “conservative” was the term we used to distinguish ourselves from the RINOs.

After Trump was nominated, the parties changed. Or, rather, a change that had been long in the making became visible to the general public. Instead of Democrats versus Republicans, we now had the uniparty of the Globalists, consisting of the Dems and the treasonous Republican establishment on the one had versus on the other hand the Americans, the Trump Republicans, Libertarians, and Alt-Right.

However, for so long as Milo Yiannopoulos and Donald Trump use the word “conservative” to refer to themselves, I shall also, despite the obvious ambiguity and limitations of that term.

I also would like to see good relations between the Conservatives and Alt-Right, and so will try to keep my criticisms of them, in any, confined to private circles, for the same reason that I think arguments about denominational differences between Christians should be held outside of the range of heathen ears.

(In fact, I think I will edit the column and remove remarks best kept private.)
