Loyal to the Destroyers, Chapter Six: Prisonbreak

Posted June 29, 2022 By John C Wright

Loyal to the Destroyers is now posted.

The dialog here is hypothetical. Records concerning Djalerat Surat Sangn recovered after the war are incomplete. No further record of Anne Shamlin and her work among the Djannumen, whether it was for many years or few, has survived.
Whatever brave deeds she and the deserter bands among the slaves of the Destroyers accomplished will never be known for certain.

Loyal to the Destroyers, Chapter Five: Conspiracy

Loyal to the Destroyers is albeit overdue, is now posted.

Nearly all of the our knowledge of social institutions and internal organization of the Destroyer World Armada as it stood before the coming of Eve Drake comes from Anne Shamlin’s notes. We have here condensed a considerable body of material.

Loyal to the Destroyers, Chapter Four: Interrogation

Posted June 15, 2022 By John C Wright

Loyal to the Destroyers is now posted.

The Fidelity Defense Association mentioned in the text is one of the unique cultural products of the pre-Orthocracy system of government, a contractual form of mutual defense pact among anarchists, which grew up in the influence of the Prometheus Intelligence. None lasted for more than a few years, and all were ended in the System Crash. However, the launch of the Shamlin expedition, and the attempt to deflect the Destroyer Race with peace negotiations show both the brilliance and the naivety of these idealists.

This is a reconstruction based on Anne Shamlin’s recovered notes and postwar Destroyer records of several exchanges taking place over a period of weeks. Events have been compressed for purposes of drama.

Neither Amaranth Mansion nor the Vatican makes any specific public statement concerning the allegation that the uplift of Homo Sapiens from nonhuman ancestors was not a product of Darwinian evolution, but an artificial bioengineering project of the Destroyer Pan-Archon Rhahavrangoroth.

Loyal to the Destroyers, Chapter Three: Prisonyard

Loyal to the Destroyers is now posted.

Warden and prisoner meet in the prisonyard, which is extensive. The event makes an interesting case study of First Contact with an alien species, if only via human slave representation.

Loyal to the Destroyers is now posted.

The details of this reenactment are taken from extrapolations from the captured records of pre-war Djanumen and the surviving Shamlin journals recovered by The Adam Drake. Some artistic liberty has been taken, and certain events abbreviated for ease of drama.

The warden is released into the outer hull, and the prisoner released into her cell. The fate of the other expedition member is discovered.

Loyal to the Destroyers, Chapter One: Warden

Posted May 26, 2022 By John C Wright

Loyal to the Destroyers is now posted.

This is a unpublished tale from my Unconquered Earth Cycle, and takes place in the same background universe as Farthest Man from Earth, Not Born a Man, and Twilight of the Gods.

It had previously appeared on this website in a slightly different form.

Chapter One of Six.

These events date from 2950 A.D.

The entry for this century from the Historical Institute Analects reads, in part, as follows:

It was due to the influence of nonhuman computer intelligence that the first expedition to the Destroyer World was launched, when that world was still some seven light-years away, detected only as an occlusion of the nebula NGC 6543 in Draco. The Anne Shamlin expedition discovered the true nature of the enemy.
