The Demeanor of the Warmalarmer Witness

Posted July 13, 2017 By John C Wright

A reader asked me to justify my skepticism toward such well informed experts as NASA and NOAA and Scientific American magazine on the question of catastrophic manmade global warming, and, of course, the United Nations IPCC, whereby I dismiss their data and declare the matter to be a hoax.

Let us review a crucial bit of evidence first. This is the head of the Sierra Club, which is perhaps the foremost and most well respected conservationist group on the planet. If anyone can be expected to know the facts of the matter, it is he. This is not some surprise interview by a reporter popped through the mail slot, but prepared remarks and cross examination in Congressional subcommittee hearing.

Observe the demeanor of the witness: Read the remainder of this entry »

To the People of the State of New York

Posted July 12, 2017 By John C Wright

A reader who wishes to remain anonymous sends the following and asks me to publish it.

Your Father Is a Hamster and Your Mother Smells of Elderberries!

By Publius Jr.

Friends, Americans, Countrymen, lend me your ears! Caesar is an SJW! He is a cuck! He is a homophobe and an islamophobe! He is a virtue-signaling Churchian!

Recently much has been said on the topic of rhetoric and dialectic. A hundred years ago, any educated man would have known the definition of these terms. Unfortunately, our modern schools no longer properly educate, so to many, these terms are mysterious.

Let us speak plainly, shall we? When we say rhetoric vs. dialectic, we mean propaganda vs. reason.

Reason uses logic to explain the steps of an issue. A=B and B=C, therefore A=C.

Propaganda uses something other than reason: threats, persuasion, appeal to the passions, name calling, false logic (Argument by authority is the strongest type of argument, as many eminent people will attest.)

Now, I ask you:

Who uses reason?

Is it a man speaking with his equals?

Who uses reason?

People who have faith in the intelligence of their audience?

Who uses reason?

One who desires the truth?

And then I ask you again:

Who uses propaganda?

Politicians trying to fool the masses?

Who uses propaganda?

Businesses trying to hook a sucker?

Who uses propaganda?

Cowards trying to avoid the holes in their arguments?

And now I ask you again:

Who is persuaded by reason?

Is it an intelligent man, who listens carefully and draws a wise conclusion?

Who is persuaded by reason?

Is it a wise man, who checks his facts?

Who is persuaded by reason?

Is it one equal listening to another?

Now, finally, I ask you one more time:

Who is persuaded by propaganda?

Think about that next time you poise your fingers above the keys to comment on the Internet.

Lost on the Last Continent, Episode 06, River of Fire, is now posted on Patreon.

Episode 06 River of Fire

In this exciting episode, Colonel Lost is outflanked by foes and driven toward the encampment of the Eighth Men. He rashly wagers all on the instincts of a new-found simian friend, and rushes toward a volcano cone, a forest fire, and seemingly certain death. Is his faith foolhardy?

Jagi here!

Just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all John’s patrons and those who have sent contributions—both large and small! Your help has made such a difference!

So in the last two years, while you guys have been helping us, we have:

1) First and foremost, not gone deeper into debt.

This is huge. We slid deeper into debt every year for years. We lived quite simply. We just didn’t have enough to cover our family expenses. In the last two years, thanks to contributions from you guys, we turned this around.

2) Paid off two credit cards.

Two cards are paid off! Thanks to you! One is closed. The other is being used only for monthly reoccurring debts and is being paid off every month. This is huge progress for us!
3) Reduced monthly bills!

With those paid off, we have turned our attention to cards with larger outstanding balances. These have been lowered enough that the monthly payment are now a bit lower, which is just wonderful! Still a long way to go, but its nice to see progress.

4) Paid various unexpected bills

Car repairs, medical bills, new glasses for those who need them, shoes that actually fit for the kids…good stuff.

5) Happy activities for the kids

The kids have some really nice activities this summer, and we were able to cover one of the collage classes our daughter will take next fall. (She paid for the other with money she made working. She also contributes by paying some family bills, bless her.)

Some of these activities were paid for by book money or by camperships, but some is due to your wonderful generosity!
Warmest thanks to you guys from the whole Wright household!

And hope you continue to enjoy our books and John’s Crusading!

Visions Among the Muslims

Posted July 10, 2017 By John C Wright

Again and again, from different sources, I keep hearing rumors and tales of conversions among the Muslims to Christ. What makes these stories stand out is the number of them who convert, as I did, based on a supernatural experience, a vision, a dream, a visit from the Virgin Mary or from Christ.

Here is one told to me privately:

I met an Assemblies of God missionary once who had just gotten back from his first term in the Middle East. I asked how long it took to get his first convert. He laughed and said, “In the city the first day, a man walked up to me and said, ‘Tell me of Jesus and how he can fix what Allah cannot.’ I was stunned and asked how he knew I was there to speak of Jesus. He replied, ‘In a dream, I saw a man with holes in his hands who said his name was Jesus and I was to look for you on this date.'”

Last Crusade 26: Thomism and Immigration

Posted July 9, 2017 By John C Wright

Prior columns have discussed the proper Christian teaching on the question of enemies, sojourners, trespassers, and refugees. All these are guests in our nation whose stay is not meant to be permanent.

Often confused with these are immigrants, that is, strangers who come not merely to save life and limb or escape oppression, but who come to join us, learn our language, adopt our ways and customs, and be baptized into Christian fellowship.

The starting point and the central pole star of any Christian discussion of these topics is found in St. Thomas’ Summa Theologiae: Read the remainder of this entry »

Unanswered Inequality Challenge

Posted July 7, 2017 By John C Wright

I was asked a number of pointed questions on the topic of monarchy and equality, but from too many directions, given my limited time, to answer all. In this column I hope to gather my thoughts into a general response.

A wise and venerable commentor on my blog remarked here recently that it was xenophobia for the Know-Nothing party of the Nineteenth Century to wish to “bar Irish (and German) Catholics from becoming naturalized US citizens because, being subservient to the Pope, an absolute monarch, they were unable to understand democracy and thus to assimilate into a democratic society.”

For what it is worth, I think it goes without saying that, by and large, many Catholics are fine fellows and understand democracy just fine.

Except on my blog.

I would have thought that there were the same number of Americans yearning for the bonds and stripes of having a king and haughty nobles lording it over them, and serfs and fawning slaves under them, as there were astronomers still adhering to geocentrism, or chemists to the phlogeston theory.

Nonetheless a good number of readers routinely comment here that it is not self evident that all men are created equal, and that they are not endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among which are the rights to life, liberty, and property.

The idea of monarchy is apparently alive and well, and the history of all mankind back to prehistory about the corruptive influence of monarchic power holds no lesson for the advocates of abolishing equality and returning to a class system or caste system.

Ironically, as best I can guess, all these modern day monarchists of my acquaintance are Catholics.

Not Tired of Winning Yet XXVI

Posted July 3, 2017 By John C Wright

President Trump fulfilled another campaign promise and recinded the absurdly unconstitutional Johnson Amendment, which is a Dem administration IRS regulation threatening preachers, priests and pastors with loss of their tax free status for their churches should they ever speak on political matters from the pulpit.

I had never heard any so called conservative politicians even speaking on the topic of the Johnson Amendment erenow. It has been in place for decades, an insolent, open, filthy, glaring, and obvious desecration of the central Constitutional liberty embodied in the First Amendment.

Any prior GOP president could have struck down this gross Democrat Party middle finger in the eyeball of all American long ago, with the stroke of a pen. None did. None, as far as I know, ever even discussed the matter.

This is cause for true celebration.

Last Crusade 25: Trespassers and Refugees

Posted July 2, 2017 By John C Wright

We are investigating the question of what the proper Christian is obligated by his love of Christ to support on the matter of illegal immigration. That a Christian nation has some moral obligation to help refugees in need is clearly announced in Scripture: but this is not the sole word the Scripture speaks on the issue.
