The Image of the Beast

Posted July 10, 2019 By John C Wright

Time to leave Google.

From the thirteenth chapter of the Apocalypse:

And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Usually, one would think of the Image of the Beast as some sort of vast statue brought to life by sly tricks of hidden joints and speaking tubes, or perhaps animated like a golem with some infernal arts of the darker sort.

I am not witty nor wise enough to attempt to interpret these deep riddles, which have baffled men better than I, but I will point out that Communism is a beast that was given a deadly wound when the Berlin Wall fell, and yet it apparently lives again, in the form of cultural Marxism and identity politics, political correctness and “Woke” social justice warfare.

This includes pretenses of opposition to it among the Alt-Right, which in truth is merely one head of a Siamese Twin mugging the other, even though they share a heart.

However you interpret the book of the Apocalypse, it would behoove you to recognize the spirit of Antichrist when you see it: namely, hatred of Christ, hatred of Mary, hatred of Jews. The one nation established expressly in liberty under God to be the place where all denominations can flourish is hated most of all.

Who is a Space Princess?

Posted July 7, 2019 By John C Wright

A reprint of a previous column, answering questions, once again pertinent, about the nature and extent of the literary movement involved:

I am happy to announce that the New Space Princess literary movement now consists of two members: me and Edward Willet, a Canadian writer who would be profoundly embarrassed to be associated with me if he knew what a disreputable person I am. But no matter! Recently the SWFA Mansion in New Jersey was rocked and shattered with tumult as Mr. Willet and I disagreed over the definition of who is a “Space Princess” — for example, is Princess Padme of Naboo a Space Princess, or only a Space Senator? Do elected Princesses count? What about a girl whose father is the Tyrant of Pluto — if Pluto is no longer a planet, does that mean she is no longer a Space Princess?

A New Literary Movement in Speculative Fiction

Posted July 7, 2019 By John C Wright

Here below is the text of the original 2007 announcement and manifesto of the New Space Princess movement, which after a dozen years of failing to take the literary world by storm, has yet to take the literary world by storm. This is the type of progress one can only call unbelievable!

Manifesto for a New Literary Movement in Speculative Fiction

I would like to announce my own literary movement and literary manifesto: THE NEW SPACE PRINCESS MOVEMENT.

The literary movement will follow two basic principles: first, science fiction stories should have space-princesses in them who are absurdly good looking. Second, The space princesses must be half-clad (if you are a pessimist. The optimist sees the space princess as half-naked). Third, dinosaurs are also way cool, as are ninjas. Dinosaur ninjas are best of all.

Looks like that’s three principles, no?

Well, I know what you are thinking.

Worldshapers on the Last Continent

Posted July 5, 2019 By John C Wright
I was honored to be interviewed on the Worldshaper’s podcast, which asks authors about their creative process. Including elsewhere on the site are interviews with Eric Flint, Larry Correia, Tad Williams, David Brin. So I am in good company.
We discuss my current ongoing multivolume epic, LOST ON THE LAST CONTINENT, as well as my formative years and theory of writing.

Mr. Willet and I are the only two living members of the New Space Princess literary movement, which has yet to take the literary world by storm.

America vs Oceania

Posted July 2, 2019 By John C Wright

I am weary, and, indeed, offended, by the nation in which I currently live. I would like to live instead in the United States of America, as represented by our flag, honors by our public monuments, and described in the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and in the various and sundry patriotic stories and songs which, in my youth, all civic minded citizens knew and loved.

I would like to live under the US Consitution, the real one as written and interpreted by honest jurisprudence, and not the one invented out of eminations of penumbras from fictional rights invented by lawless scofflaws dressed in the black robes of Supreme Court Justices.

Why, instead, do we find myself living in an Orwellian dystopia?

The Elf King in Costa Rica

Posted July 1, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi, here:

Two pictures of the Elf King in Costa Rica. They have successfully completed their trip and come back tomorrow. They did succeed in helping baby sea turtles as well as doing many other intriguing things. Once he gets home and is settled, he will write you all a note about it.
