Not Tired of Winning Yet LXII

Posted March 26, 2019 By John C Wright

Ready for more winning? Brace yourself.

Despite the best efforts of our socialist antichristian treasonous elite parasites from planet Camazotz to throw open the southern border to a few more millions per year aliens, including an unknown number of drugrunners, rapists, plaguebearers, terrorists, slavers, and gangland thugs, we are building that big beautiful wall all the Americans want and need and have a right to expect.

Not Tired of Winning LXI

Posted March 26, 2019 By John C Wright

Ready for still more winning? This is the most good political news I have ever had in one day. It is like breathing pure oxygen.  I almost cannot stand so much winning. It is too much winning. Little black sparks are dancing before my eyes. The room is spinning.

The idea that the victors in war should cede conquered territory back to their attackers, and therefore welcome further attacks, is an idea so insane and unjust, that the international community, long known for its undisguised Jew-hatred, would only attempt to pressure Israel into such a policy.

Ready for more winning? I almost cannot stand so much winning. It is too much winning. I feel faint.

Not Tired of Winning Yet LIX

The Southern Poverty Law Center has long been known to be where the Hellmouth rests, not, as was first thought, Sunnydale California. A more hateful group of rumor mongers and libel spreaders does not breathe air on Earth.

Ready for some more winning? I laughed a laugh of most pristine delight when first I heard this news, and danced a dance of joy.

Map of Pangaea

Posted March 25, 2019 By John C Wright

You asked to see a map of Pangaea Ultima.

This is getting to be a weekly feature. Minor updates and corrections made to the map, including two name changes. Serves me right for drawing a map on a work in progress.

To see a full image, right click  on it, and select ‘Open Image in New Tab” from the popup menu.

Not Tired of Winning Yet LVIII

Posted March 25, 2019 By John C Wright

In addition  to the wonderful news that the absurd Witch-hunt against the sitting president of the United States has been exploded as a fraud, we see the wire service issue this tidbit of savory schadenfreude:

The Federalist  reports that the creepy Michael Avenatti has been indicted for extortion and wire fraud.

Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was charged and arrested by prosecutors in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for an alleged attempt to extort Nike for $20 million.

On the same day, federal authorities in California announced Avenatti also faces federal charges of wire and bank fraud in the Central District of California.

Avenatti previously represented Stormy Daniels and Brett Kavanaugh accuser Julie Swetnick

For ‘celebrity lawyer’ read ‘porn star lawyer’.

Not Tired of Winning Yet LVII

President Donald Trump signed an executive order promoting free speech on university campuses on Wednesday at the White House.

“Today, we are delivering a clear message to the professors and power structures trying to suppress, to keep young Americans and all Americans from challenging ridged far left ideology,” Trump said. “People who are confident in their beliefs cannot censor others.”

The executive order signed by the president requires universities to certify that they support free speech on campus in order to receive federal research grants.

I would have voted for Trump just for this, no matter how unpresidential or undignified he seems, or what sort of playboy lifestyle he has led. This is a wonder and a strong blow against the forces of darkness.

A Theology Question

Posted March 23, 2019 By John C Wright

The question was raised in this space in recent days about whether, if the origin of the cosmos, being a necessary being, possessed of free will, but omnipotent, that origin could change its nature by its own act?

In other words, if God the Father is all powerful, can he abdicate that power, and make himself into something other than God the Father?

Dum Vivimus, Vivamus!

Posted March 22, 2019 By John C Wright

In a previous column in this space, I held forth the opinion that Conan’s speak to Belit in Queen of the Black Coast that he was content with the pleasure and danger of wine, women, and war, and he asked no more of the gods than strongly to strive and fight was the most elegant and trenchant oratory in favor of intemperate life, to blaze brightly, if briefly, ever penned.

The question then becomes, what is the second most? I offer as a candidate this hortatory as penned by Robert Heinlein in GLORY ROAD to those the high, elusive and glorious dreams convoked by storybooks :

Conan and the Gods

Posted March 22, 2019 By John C Wright

In May of 1934, Robert E Howard’s Queen of the Black Coast was  published in Weird Tales. This column is the second to review the story. The first part is here.

Many a fan, this one included, calls Queen of the Black Coast the finest of the Conan stories, in part because of its legendary scope, in part because of its lurid romance, it passages of lyrical poetry, its vivid and bloody battle-scenes, the sense of mystery and adventure, the chilling eldritch visions of ancient eons and shades of the dead, the Viking funeral at the end.

The writing excels on three levels: first, striking characterization gives life to an intimate and tragic romance; second, lyrical world-building conjures a vision of a lost age, cruel but not without its savage beauties; third, a deep and even grim theme dignifies what would otherwise be a mere boy’s adventure tale with adumbration of deep time and an almost Norse melancholy touching the brevity of life, the indifference of the gods.

Let us look at each in turn.

The Sons of the Father of Lies

Posted March 22, 2019 By John C Wright

I notice that, again and again, one must explain the basic rules of courtesy in the modern day, which apparently few are taught any more.

The most explanation is needed to those people, who call themselves politically correct, who are the rudest creatures imaginable, but who, in their own delirious minds, regard themselves as more polite, more inclusive, more welcoming that all other Sons of Adam combined.

It is a lie, as is everything they say. They are the sons of the Father of Lies, and they serve him.

Conan: Queen of the Black Coast

Posted March 21, 2019 By John C Wright

Believe green buds awaken in the spring,
That autumn paints the leaves with somber fire;
Believe I held my heart inviolate
To lavish on one man my hot desire.
The Song of Belît

Queen of the Black Coast was  published in the May, 1934, issue of Weird Tales, one month after the previous story, Iron Shadows in the Moon. It is the tenth published story in the Conan canon.

The tale cannot be discussed without spoilers, so be warned.

This should be the introductory tale to any curious but uninitiated reader: it is the best to date.

The passions are deeper and richer than a mere adventure story, the prose both in dry humor and dark pathos is some of Howard’s best, the supernatural horror strikes grimly close to Conan’s heart, and the whole as a legendary feel to it, from the madcap flight on horseback in the opening scene, to the viking funeral at the close.

Here, for the first time, Conan meets a woman as fierce, wild, bold and free as himself. She is his equal and more.

Blistering Space Oaths!

Some readers who are eager to express themselves vociferously may wonder what, if any, rough or uncouth language is allowed on this blog? Well, fret not! As a graceous public service, I have compiled here a list of blistering deep-space oaths perfectly acceptable for use on this, or any other, science fictional journal, blog, or combox!

(Only the strong of stones may look below the cut. All others, pray avert your pure eyes!)
