Happy New Year!

Posted December 31, 2021 By John C Wright

Well, aside from the stolen election of 2020 not being corrected, and Trump being reinstalled, and the perpetrators hanged by the neck until dead, I feel the passing year was not as bad as it might have been.

To the Tune of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

Posted December 23, 2021 By John C Wright

By my #3 Son, in honor of Saint Nicholas striking Arius the Heresiarch during the Council of Nicaea:

Oh! You better watch out
You’d better not be
Spreading your doubt
and heresy
St. Nicholas is Cleaning your Clock!

You heard of Arianism,
You thought that it was slick,
You were so proud of your Schism,
‘Til you ran into St. Nick!

Review: Spider-Man No Way Home

Posted December 22, 2021 By John C Wright

This is my spoiler free review:
SPIDER-MAN NO WAY HOME picks up at the same moment, the same frame of film, that SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME ended, namely, when Mysterio reveals his secret identity to the world, and frames him for murder.

Manrepairman on Antiwhite Nihilism

Posted December 20, 2021 By John C Wright

Divine providence lead me to read a column by a writer with the humanitarian restorational name of Man-Repairman. It is called Antiwhite Nihilism and voices conclusions with which logic compels me most strongly to agree.

He begins thus:

… As of 2020, 7% of Americans identify as black Christians. Most Americans today, if asked, would verbally identify themselves as being Christians. However, based on the beliefs and behavior that I and others have personally observed, this is not the case. Many nominal Christians, to varying degrees, do not actually believe what they claim to believe. Most people in the United States have a syncretistic belief system comprised of some Christianity mixed with ideas pulled from the wider culture.

He continues:

Now to explain Antiwhite Nihilism.

The “antiwhite” part is pretty easy to understand on its face, and it is the less important concept. I use that term as a modifier for the core of this philosophy – nihilism. Nihilism rejects the concept of objective truth. Truth doesn’t exist. Or it exists but cannot be known with any degree of certainty. Or it exists and can be known, but it doesn’t matter. Antiwhite nihilism can be summarized thusly – it is a philosophy which abandons truth in its attack on whiteness and/or white people. Most people probably wouldn’t self-identify as nihilists (more would be willing to identify as explicitly antiwhite), but their philosophical foundations are logically implied by what they profess believe.

Specifically, the modern incarnation of Marxist thought that currently dominates American culture is nihilistic. Marxism rejects the concepts of objective truth and rational thought as a tools of white supremacy. In fact, antiwhite nihilism can largely be seen as originating from modern Marxist thought. To such people, there is no “truth”. There are only competing narratives. Marxism posits that the dominant ideology of the ruling class cannot be maintained for long simply through violence.

The column can be found here:

(Note: I am flattered the author links back to my columns on THE LAST CRUSADE, showing, it seems, our respect is mutual.)

The Doc Savage Formula

Posted December 19, 2021 By John C Wright

Lester Dent was the staff writer who, under the house name Kenneth Robeson, penned all but 20 of these 181 novel-length tales of the science adventurer and globetrotting detective Clark Savage, Jr. Dent created a workmanlike product, on tight deadline, to his wordcount.

And a hero who lives on in popular culture forever was born: the Man of Bronze, DOC SAVAGE.

He was once asked to outline the formula for the pacing and plotting his successful creation. The answer is an entertaining read, and involves swatting the hero with a fistful of trouble in the opening act, then then shoveling more grief on him later, when he gets it in the neck.

The Superheroine’s Mom

Posted December 17, 2021 By John C Wright

Apropos of a recent conversation in this space, by sheer chance, I came across this scene in AVENGERS INFINITY (2000) ish #1.

Here we see the Miss Rambeau, aka the real Captain Marvel (the one who bore the name, in other words, when I was young, back when Carol Danvers was called Ms. Marvel). She is the daughter of an ex-fireman. She is being called off reserve status for emergency field duty out around Rigel. Mrs. Rambeau, her mother, attempts to halt the call.

The Superhero’s Wife

Posted December 16, 2021 By John C Wright

A reader with the royal yet ranch-hand name of Roy Brander comments:

“But the comic-book hero adventures all have to be *close* scrapes with death, over and over, like Bond movies, where you can hardly believe they survived. “

My comment:

Depends on the comic.

Batman, back when Adam West was Batman, would end up in a cliffhanger deathtrap in every show. Catwoman would be crazy to marry him. Of course, on the other hand, she was the one putting him in the deathtrap when she was the guest-star, and what girl does not like teasing her guy a little bit? With sadistic death?

On the other hand, Spider-Man, as best I remember, never ended up in the hospital, never got a broken leg, rarely got a black eye. He could dodge bullets, and spin a web into a bulletproof shield, and so on.

Of course, on the third hand, Batman never got married, whereas Spider-Man did. Maybe there is a good reason for that.

Rafe Shot First

Posted December 16, 2021 By John C Wright

Regarding STAR WARS, a reader with the alphanumeric yet chesslike name of Pawn4King says:

“And Han did shoot first.”

My comment:

I wrote this scene with you in mind, and readers like you. It is from Chapter Six of Book Two of my upcoming novel STARQUEST: SECRET AGENTS OF THE GALAXY.

My version of Han Solo is a pirate-hunter, privateer, and Imperial aristocrat named Raphean Lone. Years ago, he fell for the Pirate Queen, Jade. Instead of arresting her, he married her, and together they joined the rebellion to overthrow the Empire.

The lance pistol mentioned is one of a matched set, a special heirloom  of the family, which shoots an armor-piercing ray. This scene is from the memory of their third boy, Athos Lone.

RPG Ascendant

Posted December 15, 2021 By John C Wright

This game was developed by a friend and comrade-in-arms in the culture wars, as well as my editor for one of my magazine gigs. He is also a gamer and game designer. Because he is that awesome. The words below are his.

RPG ASCENDANT is currently #2 on the bestseller list at DriveThruRPG. That’s the highest any of my games has ever climbed in the rankings.
The reviews are awesome.
