Tying the Knot

Posted December 15, 2021 By John C Wright

Written for a nonfiction anthology on Wonder Woman in the popular culture which since fell through, this column debuts here to my readers as a courtesy.

Why She Will Never Wed Steve Trevor

1. MRS. STEVE TREVOR

Diana Trevor.

Somehow, that name does not have the same authentic ring as Mrs. Lois Kent.

The mental picture of Steve Trevor sweeping the Wonder Woman off her feet and carrying her over the threshold seems comical, not sweet. In contrast, the picture of Lois Lane being carried up, up and away in the arms of her super-strong lover has a certain majesty and inevitability to it: many a girl wants to be swept off her feet and carried into the clouds. Let us look into the matter.

To do this, we must look at what the character of Wonder Woman was meant to be, what she symbolized to her creator, and what later writers have altered her to be, as the verdict of three generations of readers influenced the direction of the comic. We need to note what makes for good drama in a love triangle. A contrast with other romantic melodrama in comics might be instructive. And we need to analyze how the romantic tension in Wonder Woman falls short. Perhaps we can even be so bold as to suggest a remedy.

The Leviathan of Time Chapter Seven: Elf Fare is Unfit for Man is now posted.

In which the prince, after years of travail in the underworld, comes naked into the garden before time. Slowly, aided by the unseen, he recovers from the unnatural diet that previously sustained him.

The Museum can identify no fixed year of time nor parallel branch when these reports events could be situated. The flora as described are unknown. However, the best estimate by a non-temporal authority places the site as October 23, 4004 BC on the proleptic Julian calendar.

Wright on Asimov on Orwell

Posted December 10, 2021 By John C Wright

Until today, I was unaware that Isaac Asimov wrote an extensive review of George Orwell’s NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR, and that the review was negative.

This came as rather a surprise to me, since I could not imagine one of the top science fiction authors in America daring to undermine one of the top science fiction authors in Britain, and one who, unlike himself, had broken into the mainstream, won worldwide fame, and was read and discussed by everyone everywhere.

Of course, political correctness was not yet known by that name, but it is everywhere evident in Asimov’s fussy little work of tongue-clucking. It is more a complaint about Orwell’s politics than a critique of Orwell’s work.

Here is Asimov’s review:

Woke Writes Ingsoc

Posted December 9, 2021 By John C Wright

The Guardian newspaper out of Great Britain is reporting that the estate of Eric Arthur Blair, better known as George Orwell, has granted permission to rewrite his classic dystopian nightmare book NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR from a feminist perspective.

The tale is reimagined from the viewpoint of Winston Smith’s lover Julia, who operates a writing machine in the Fiction Department of the Ministry of Truth.

Note the irony.

In the seventy years since publication, the novel has never been out of print. Nonetheless, a feminist version needed for political correction. The Junior Anti-Sex League demands goodthink.

Let us ponder.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

How, praytell, will the Woke reword this passage to defang it of its grimly grinning, gallows’ humor in a book rewritten to suit the eternal present in which the Left is always right?

Because the irony is greater if it is left intact by the unselfaware inhumanoids reworking the classic to suit their own private version of Thought Police.

The Voice of Reason: The Last Crusade Aloud

Posted December 8, 2021 By John C Wright

Voice of Reason posts the first installment of the Last Crusade oration:

Last Crusade 01 Behind Enemy Lines.

It is my humble pleasure to announce the opening of a YouTube channel, christened THE VOICE OF REASON, where video essays taken from my published content here will be published.

Here I read the columns from series THE LAST CRUSADE, which is a call to arms to the Men of the West to uphold their ancient liberties, patriotism, and faith so malignantly and openly being corrupted, corroded, and killed before our eyes.

I hope the gentle audience will forgive the amateurish flaws that mar the speech of a man who is no public speaker. The written word is my more well-known realm.

The Leviathan of Time, Chapter Six: Oedipus and Jonah is now posted.

In which Prince George beholds a face in the sun.
The Museum has no comment on this vision. It is not an available chronological event from any parahistorical lineage nor variant of any event or combination of events in human history, nor matter how futuristic.

Seven Days and Seven Sisters

Posted December 4, 2021 By John C Wright

It is always a little sad when a culture, as if due to a head injury, suffers memory loss. I will use two rather small examples: one of Seven Days and the second of Seven Sisters.

The first example comes of the famous Mother Goose rhyme about the Seven Days when a child is born. Note the fate of Tuesday’s Child is to be full of grace. What does it mean?

Right to Life or Duty to Rear

Posted December 1, 2021 By John C Wright

As a matter of legal reasoning, please note that current law, including truancy laws and child welfare laws, will punish a parent who neglects, abuses, underfeeds, beats, or fails to educate his child.

These laws impose positive duties on parents to protect and rear the child, regardless of the citizenship of the child, nor is there any legal test of capacity or personhood for such things. It is not legal to kill a child who is insane, retarded, nor autistic due to mental incapacity. The childrearing duty applies to all children, regardless.

When does this duty obtain?

The Leviathan of Time, Chapter Five: The Cavern of Time

Posted December 1, 2021 By John C Wright

The Leviathan of Time Chapter Five: The Cavern of Time is now posted.

In which Prince George speaks of his wanderings through things past and things to come. The Sorcerer Ximeng brings him to the top of a high mountain, and shows him the kingdoms of the world in the last days before the final extinction of man.

Horologists and Futurists have estimated the final day of human life to be October 22 of 4004 A.D. and the last man, Omegarus, to perish at roughly 6.00 P.M. Greenwich Mean Time somewhere in the region of Lake Avernus in Italy.

These estimates are subject to change due to as-yet unmanifested temporal redactions or revisions.
