Not Tired of Winning Yet XC

Posted December 15, 2019 By John C Wright

The reader may recall that it was widely reported in a New York Times piece and elsewhere in the mainstream press that President Trump, whose grandchildren are Jewish, by signing in Executive Order defining Jews as being a nation rather than a race, which was not only anti-Semitism on Trumps part, but was ‘Confusing’, ‘Unclear’ and ‘Really Scary’. Nothing of the kind happened, of course.

The Executive Order closes a loophole in the definition of discrimination which allowed certain anti-Semitic activities to bloom on college campuses, under the rubric of being directed against the Jews on the grounds of national origin rather than on the grounds of faith or race.

Jagi, here. Sorry, you guys have been seeing a lot of me recently.

New from Superversive Press,
a new essay collection by our own John C. Wright!

This excellent cover was provided by one of the backers to the Starquest Campaign and is dedicated to him and his wife. The Kindle version is now available. The paper version should be coming soon.

These essays appeared on this blog at some point, but here they are in convenient book form.

Science Fiction Grandmaster John C Wright here presents never before published essays on topics both deep and trivial surrounding the strange and wonderful worlds of science fiction and fantasy. Thoughtful, humorous, deep, or absurd, Wright travels the width of the cosmos and plumbs the deeps of eternity through the lens of simple space adventure stories to say what these flights of fancy say about life on earth, and the secrets hidden in the human heart.

A story in a song — Hard Moon

Posted December 13, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi ,here.

Ben Zwycky put together an amazing video for Superversive Press’s new release, Hard Moon by David Hallquist. The song reminds me of everything I loved about Science Fiction as a girl. (John really enjoyed the hint in the video that those seeking the Singularity might be the villains.)

When Brandt Wills comes back to life in the caves of Luna, his problems have just begun. Once a renegade enforcer, now a lone survivor of forbidden research, he holds a secret in his blood with deadly consequences. Pursued by the mysterious Singularity, he must fight for survival, with only the mutant symbiote in his blood and an ai system on his side.

“Hard Moon” is the first in a new science fiction thriller series where alien research could mean destruction or salvation for the solar system.

Operation Vampire!

Posted December 12, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi, here. John and I are thrilled to announce the publication of Operation Vampire, but our dear friend, Steven G. Johnson. If you enjoy mil-SF, you may well enjoy this hard-hitting mil-fantasy about an Elf-American in WWII. I have been delighted with how well it has been received by milsf fans so far.

Some of you may have read an earlier version of the first half called either Operation Renfield or King of the Hill.  Operation Vampire includes a new and improved longer version of that–including an eerie encounter with an American icon–and a whole new adventure for King Company, Operation Vulture.

Mick Murphy’s an Irish half-elf from Manhattan. His best buddy Dave is a dwarf from Brooklyn. Together with a company of misfits, screwballs and, well, trolls from the pit, they’ll take on anything Austro-Hungaro-Romania, or for that matter Hell itself, cares to throw at them.

But behind the vampires, werewolves and sky demons are the Big Boys, deep down in a pit of their own. The War won’t end until G.I.s plant their boots on the Devil’s throne and kick him out. Working their way up to this biggest of D-Days is going to tax the United States Army to its utmost … but the dogfaces on the Line are one step ahead of the brass, because they’re already halfway to Hell.

Not Tired of Winning Yet LXXXIX

Posted December 12, 2019 By John C Wright

Another campaign promise kept by Donald Trump. Eighty-nine and counting.

The Democrat-controlled legislators in the House of Representatives take a small vacation from their unremitting and vain attempts to overthrow the results of the 2016 election in order to do some of the work entrusted to them under the Constitution, namely, ratifying a treaty: the House announced support for USMCA, the trade deal negotiated by Trump and signed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This is a huge win for Mr Trump, but the media (who are the avowed and open enemy not just of the American people, but of all Western Civilization) will downplay it or dismiss his role.

Atheism Proves Theism

Posted December 6, 2019 By John C Wright

Atheism is not so much an argument as an act of heckling: it consists of pointing and name-calling.

If you call what saves life and justifies virtue “superstitious nonsense” and you call what leads to astronomical mass murder “science” then any sane and sober man will take the superstition over the science any day. Changing the names of things changes not their nature.

Me, I do not have enough faith to be an atheist. It takes a lot of faith to ignore the facts of history, of science, and the conclusions of logic, and to maintain sub-neolithic ignorance about not just one or two, but all branches of knowledge.

Day of Fasting and Prayer against Idols

Posted December 6, 2019 By John C Wright

A reminder to all good and faithful Catholics out there, and all the bad Catholics like me, and to all the Christians who regard all the denominations and their brothers in Christ, that today is a day of prayer and fasting to drive out any diabolic influence within the Church.

Here is a column on the point:

FOUR exorcists have issued a joint statement asking Catholics worldwide to dedicate Dec. 6 as a day of fasting, prayer and reparation…

The exorcists, who have requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of their ministries, cited in a particular way the controversy that took place during the recent Pan-Amazon Synod, when statues purportedly of Pachamama, a goddess worshiped by indigenous Andeans, were incorporated into various synod events.

The Immortal One-Third Minute Scottish Scoff at Samurai Jack

Posted December 5, 2019 By John C Wright

I love a blistering space-oath as well as the next spaceman, by Klono’s Brazen Claws!

But for the best use of obscure science fiction insult slang, we need look no further than the immortal scoff of generous invective delivered against Samurai Jack:

Wherefore by their Fruits, Episode 07 The Threaping

Posted December 4, 2019 By John C Wright

Wherefore by their Fruits, Episode 07 The Threaping, is now posted.

Episode 07: The Threaping

In which Princox makes a passionate confession, but somehow entangles himself in an altercation. The girl voices a willfulness unexpected in one of tender years and gentler sex.

What strange word from Earth has rendered her so nonconformist? Will she not heed correct thought?

And how can Earth still send word? Earth died! So solemn predictions, certain as the return of lunar eclipses, in generations past foretold!

Correct thought cannot be questioned!

The World is a Haunted House

Posted December 2, 2019 By John C Wright

You may not have noticed that we live in a Haunted House.

Four things haunt us: the sublime, the awful, the moral, and the salvific.

When we see the sublime, we know beauty; when we see the divine, we know awe; when the whisper of the conscience pierces the soul, we see virtue in all its undeniable glory, and we know, to our woe, that we have violated it; and, rarely, we hear dimly the laughter of the living water running, whose drop can wash that stain away.

This is properly called a haunting, because, like the footsteps of a ghost, none of these things are obvious, literal, nor easily grasped.
