Impossible Hope — the anthology, the fundraiser, the chat

Posted August 20, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi, here.

John and I appeared on a Live Chat promoting the charity anthology, Impossible Hope, in which we both have a story.

Impossible Hope is an anthology which you can receive for free if  you donate to the Go Fund Me for Bonnie Oliver, a young woman in need of an expensive medical procedure.

Her brother writes: My desire is to help my sister in any way I can. Being a man of modest means and resources, aside from being there for her and assisting whenever possible, there is little I can do alone. However, with help, I intend to do more. I was able to get in touch with a number of writers, all of whom have donated their time and effort and art for an Anthology of short stories, entitled “Impossible Hope”. Anyone who donates through here will receive a copy of the book as a thank you for their generosity.

You can see the fundraiser here.

And here is the Chat, with John, myself, the lovely A. M. Freeman, Ben Wheeler, and many more!

Signal Boost — Saint Tommy, NYPD

Posted May 8, 2019 By John C Wright

Hey all,

Jagi, here. I have the honor of being the editor on this series. It is a really fun series to edit. Fun, dramatic, fast moving, hard hitting.

From Book 1: My name is Officer Thomas Nolan, and I am a saint.Tommy Nolan lives a quiet life. He walks his beat – showing mercy to the desperate. Locking away the dangerous. Going to church, sharing dinner with his wife and son. Everyone likes Tommy, even the men he puts behind bars.

Then one day a demon shows up and he can smell it. Tommy can smell evil –real evil. Now he’s New York City’s only hope against a horrifying serial killer that preys on the young and defenseless.

But smell alone isn’t enough to get a warrant. Can Tommy track down the killer and prove his guilt?

Dragon Award Nominated Author Declan Finn returns with his typical action-packed, Catholic influenced style, in this groundbreaking horror series about an honest, religious man given the powers of a saint to fight demons in the Big Apple.

How do you do forensics on a killer possessed by a demon?

Can Tommy catch the killer before he becomes a martyr? Or will the demon bring darkness beyond imagination to the whole of New York? Read Hell Spawn today and find out!

Indiegogo: Combat Frame XSeed: Coalition Year 40 Novel!

Posted March 8, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi here: New Brian Neimeier book in the offing!  I know some of you have been enjoying this series. Here’s a chance to get in on the ground floor for the next one!

They made him necessary. He’ll make them pay.
Earth groans under the yoke of the Systems Overterrestrial Coalition. Socs enjoy privileged status while grounders languish as second-class citizens.

Student Thomas Arthur Dormio leads the Brussels Service Academy’s history club, a front for a dissident grounder cell. The Human Liberation Organization conducts a campaign of blackmail, sabotage, and terrorism to free Earth from the Socs.

En route to make contact with the HLO, Second Lieutenant Theodore Red arrives in orbit over Western Europe. But before he starts the next phase of the resistance on Earth, Red has a man to kill.

Will the HLO avenge themselves on the Coalition? Or will personal grudges and conflicting purposes tear them apart? Find out in the pages of Combat Frame XSeed: Coalition Year 40!

Back it now!

The Elf King Requesteth — Fundraising for Service Trip

Posted February 27, 2019 By John C Wright

Hello,
My name is Justinian Oberon Wright, usually called Juss (as in Lord Juss from The Worm Ouroboros) though a few of you may know me as The Elf King (see my middle name).

I am the youngest son of John C. Wright and his “lovely and talented wife”, L. Jagi Lamplighter (Wright). You may remember me from such articles as Frozen’s Fatal Flaw Or The Unplotted Plot Twist. This summer, I have an opportunity to go on the adventure of a lifetime–or at least of my lifetime so far–but, I need your help!

I am a part of an organization called the National Leadership Council, a youth group for Christian teens. The point of NLC is to teach kids, such as myself, the skills needed to succeed. The program has been of great help to me. It has forced me to achieve level organization and stick-to-itiveness that, while not yet all that impressive, I would not otherwise have.

Standing Up To The Impuritans

Posted February 8, 2019 By John C Wright

My lovely and talented wife wrote a response to the Amelie Wen Zhao situation. It is published at the Christian Fantasy site, Lorehaven

Standing Up To The Impuritans

You have probably heard by now about Amelie Wen Zhao, the Chinese immigrant who pulled her YA fantasy nove, Blood Heir, after being set upon by Twitter piranha.

Zhao based the invented world in her novel on her own experience growing up on mainland China. In China today, slavery is a concern, especially for young women, who are in danger of being kidnapped and sold to men who cannot otherwise find wives, due to China’s one-child policy. So Zhao included indentured servants and human trafficking as a plot issue in her novel.

Only, in her fantasy world, it was magic powers, rather than skin color, that fueled the discrimination that decided who ended up as a slave.

It was this that—of all things—that upset her attackers.

Nearly every fantasy or science fiction book I read as a child had basically this same theme—that prejudice would be different in an alien culture, and by viewing it from afar, we can learn to overcome it in ourselves. And yet, this very premise is what Zhao’s attackers denied. They condemned her for allowing slavery to be about anything but skin color.

They actually said this.

The Keepers of New Haven — Kickstarter!

Posted January 24, 2019 By John C Wright

Jagi, here. Posting this for one of my authors. (Though this is not the series of hers I edit.)

Kickstarter from Silver Empire for a new series written by our own Bokerah Brumley

Vengeance always has consequences.

Woe is a fallen angel, sentenced to mortality for an unforgivable violation of angelic code. Cast down to the streets of New Haven, she is rescued by Fae prince Arún, who delivers her into the care of Jason, a local balance keeper.

As the dark and brooding Jason coaches Woe on the intricacies of being human, she discovers a rush of new and exhilarating feelings that are difficult to ignore, compounded by the always timely arrival of her Fae hero-savior.

Jason comes face-to-face with his humanity, torn between his desire for Woe and his vows to keep New Haven safe.

Arún finds himself drawn to Woe and to the destiny he does not want, further testing his loyalty to the kingdom of his birth.

As an unseen enemy circles ever closer, Woe is forced to choose between them, and the fate of worlds hangs in the balance.

Join the Keepers of New Haven as they fight to maintain the balance between good and evil in a paranormal world where nothing is as it seems.
